Looking for CPS2 instructions on how to phoenix a dead board.

Dead Battery society doesn't have the instructions for a CPS2. I picked up a Marvel vs Capcom and get the blue screen. Battery is testing as zero volts.

What's the story, morning glory?

Remove the battery. Download the code. Look in the ZIP file for file names. Pull the corresponding EPROMs, erase them, reprogram them, and install 'em back in the board.

Boot the game and enjoy.

I pay Razoola for the code. It's available on torrents though. I like the developer getting $$$ for his efforts. It's 25 Euros.

Well, I found an explanation about installing modified unencrypted roms, and what patches need to be done. Don't think I could do it myself without step-by-step noob intsructions and hand-holding. Of course, I can't find a place to download these already-prepped ROMs so I can burn my own, either. Now, if anyone has them and are willing to share?

Good to know. Didn't know if he'd sell the code and e-mail it to me, as he just mentioned sending the ROMs to him and him doing the change for me...

And of course my ROM burner will need an adapter that I don't have even were I to get the files...

1. Remove your battery.
2. Short a capacitor near the battery, not sure the exact location. (Google is your friend)
3. Burn the appropriate Phoenixed ROMs for your game and install them.
4. Enjoy.

Hope that helps. :)

Are the MAME files the Phoenixed version?

Also, the files that it says to replace seem to be ROMs 3, 4, and 7. However, these files are 512kb, while the ROMs in question are 4MBit ROMs (M5M27C402K and M5M27C4002D). Does this sound right?

ROMs are measured in Kilobits and Megabits... Multiply the 512KB (KiloBytes) by 8 to get the number in Kb (Kilobits) and you get 4Mb... ;)

Anyone ever had a CPS2 board die while running? Battery still reads 3.7V and I have seen the blue screen, power cycled, then title/version and warning screens before hanging again.
Alpha 2 board

If the security circuit may still be good, but there is a known component issue (capacitor, restistor, etc.), I would rather attempt to fix it first before programming the ROMs.

If you are seeing anything besides a solid colored screen on boot then it is not suicided.

Yeah something is up. I replaced one capacitor that looked bad, and reseated ROMS 5 and 6 since they were barely in their sockets. Eventually got through to Charlie on the intro, and then I got a code dump.

After that, I have seen a blue screen with:

Work Ram OK
CPS0 Ram OK
CPS1 Ram OK
CPS2

Got a Alpha 2 red text screen, garbage output, then next boot blue screen Work Ram NG.

I have cycled through A boards as well with similar results to try to rule that out.

Got the ROM files, got Sprout to burn them for me since my burner wouldn't, shorted the cap - and it's working!

Thanks for all who helped...
