Building a multicade and needing a monitor. Like the look of the old style 19" monitors but they go for around 300 delivered. Could just use a 21" lcd? What do you think? thxs for your time, paul

You can use an LCD screen but nothing really compares to playing them on a traditional CRT. They are obviously becoming harder to track down and prices have gone up. I'd try and hold out for a CRT unless you have a LCD laying around.

i would try to find a used monitor. chris25810 sells chassis, maybe he or someone else can hook you up with a full monitor. post a shout out in your area. i'm sure you can find one somewhere.

Do as I did on a recent project.. I found a 27" TV for 20 bucks on craigs list, then ordered a 100 dollar chassis from 8 liners. Yes it's standard res but it still looks good and affordable.. however this method takes a little knowledge. That knowledge is pretty easily explained here: http://www.8liners.com/datatech/monitor.html

If you go this route here are some tips. Look for TV's made in the early to late 90s. As you get into newer tv's they are harder to match. Brand names are important to. Phillips is great, RCA great, Magnavox great, Sanyo Decent. I've used all of those on 25" swaps. Stay away from flat screens like Sony Trinitrons.

Final advice.. Don't kill yourself and read up on how to discharge and handle crt tubes.
