Hello everyone, I just signed up here a few days ago. Been looking over all the interesting posts. Anyhow I'm a newbie and here's I got started in a nutshell:

A couple weeks ago my fiance and I ran across a yardsale. In the back of the garage was a working Guerrilla War game. Dirty but it plays just fine. Price sticker on the marquee was 150 bucks. I thought nah, loved the game, remembered playing it and would love to restore it but too many other projects. So we left. We discussed it and decided to go back. We return, offer the guy 120 bucks and next thing I know I'm jamming into the back of our Dodge Caravan, with help of course.

Anyway, I'd love to post pics that I have taken of it now but I am missing a cord for the camera to connect to the pc.

It's in the stage of stripping off the side art, which I can buy on the net with no problem. My problem is the CPO. I cannot, repeat, cannot find a cpo for this game anywhere. So I am planning on restoring the one I have. The color part of cpo is dirty but passable. The black vinyl ( it's not vinyl but some kind of plastic I think ) is worn and ripped. My plan is to bondo in the worn parts of the overlay, sand it all gently until it blends then repaint the lower portion of the CPO by hand, which is a black horizon. Keeping the top part, the sky etc.. all original. I know it sounds nuts but I might be able to pull it off.

Any thoughts?

Again Hi and thanks for having me here

Anyone have any thoughts on how to repair and repaint a vinyl ( plastic ) CPO on a Guerrilla War machine? I'd love to just replace it but that seems impossible. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated :D

Do you have pics of your control panel? Would like to see what condition it's in.

I actually do but I need to make a run to Best Buy and pick up a cord for my camera. It has grown legs and walked away. I will be posting a bunch of picks as soon as I get it.

On a side note I think it's what you call an original dedicated cabinet. The PCB is factory screwed to the side panel. I'll get pics up asap.

I found the camera cable! So here are the first pics. Pic # 1 it's dirty but really not bad considering. Brings back some memories:)

Pic#2 shows the poor shape of the control panel but it's mostly the bottom portion, the black vinyl bit. The top, colored part of the cpo is dirty but not too bad. I'm still try to come up with something that will bring out the color.

Pic# 3 close up of the wear damage. My thought was to clean it up, sand it lightly, smooth on a thin layer of bondo, dry and wet sand it gently. I would need to repaint all the black on that horizon, including the palm trees. However I need to find a paint that can adhere to the vinyl and even if I did a perfect job I don't think it would look good enough. I need to carefully consider this as I only have one chance to get it right.

Geez let me see if I can post the pics this time.

Pic# 1 Ok here is a pic of the inside BEFORE I shop vac'd it. Compared to some of the horror shows I've seen on this site I think I would almost eat off of it...almost.

Pic#2 You'll get a kick out of this. I was originally going to remove all hardware so I was racking my noodle, how do I get the plexiglass off to get to the bezel?? I was all set to start removing the monitor from inside the cabinet when I decided to get a better look up inside. Low and behold there are clasps way in there! Idiot!

Pic#3 Two clicks and the cp drops down, full access to everything.

Pic#4 behind the scenes of the cpo. A mix of leaf switches and micros. I think I am going to replace them all with clean micros. I like the feel of the leafs but I think they tend to need some maintentance over their lives.

I have cleaned it out pretty well so I think another good going over and I am going to mask all electronics where they sit so I can paint the cab. I really don't want to remove the stuff and have something die on me. I really don't.

Honestly I don't know. I thought it was a dedicated cab because the pcb is screwed directly to the side of the cab but really that's a guess as I have no experience with restoring arcade games....yet.

http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=6769

several games use the same cab,i am sure streetfighter 2 (or something) has same cab also just different artwork.i cant be 100% sure as soo many cabs seem to get switching power supplys that it could be jammarised, not saying its a bad thing like but, have you tried a jamma board in it?just to see if it fits the connector.
:)

I checked that link out and the cabs do look the same, but the inside of mine shows no signs ( again that I can tell ) that it has been anything but what it is. However having no experience in this at all I could very well be wrong. I'll get some more pics posted of the inside this weekend.

That's an original dedicated cab. I have a Guerilla War cab too. The side art really tells you that it's a dedicated cab too. The harness works fine with other JAMMA boards.

You'll probably start wanting other games that use the rotary joysticks now!

Cool! Hopefully that means it's worth maybe a little more money?

I'm heading out to hobby lobby today to look for paint to paint that cpo. I want some thing that will dry to a vinyl flat finish.

we all learn something new as we go along.last year i only knew how to play them and hadnt even played an arcade machine in yonks, now i have star castle (although it has a monitor fault),a space zap in restoration process and a sega gremlin awaiting restoration.

means now you know its jamma based you can change the game to whatever you like as long as the cab accomodates it,i would suggest keeping it original and dedicated myself, dont go shoving a 60in1 in it.

like its been suggested you got a rotary joystick machine so keep it as is and if you get bored shove another rotary jamma game in.
:)

You MIGHT be able to find a reproduction Guerrilla War CPO at mamemarquees.com or arcadeoverlays.com. And welcome to the forums!

Thank you but I've tried both of those places and no luck. I'll keep looking but I think I am going to try to restore it. We'll see. At least I can get side art for it :)

Got it all sanded and bondo'd. tomorrow more sanding and bondo. then more and more sanding. etc. etc...

Should this thread be moved to the restoration showcase forum? Or should I just start a new thread there? Or can I still post progress pics here?

All righty then!

Pic#1&2&3 I got all the old side art stripped off the cab, the glue was a nightmare but thanks to a suggestion from my lovely fiance an S.O.S pad worked great on it. So here it is all sanded and bondo applied.

Pic#4 The coinbox. It's in sweet shape, a sand down and repaint of the black with new locks will make it look perfect. I plan on setting it up so at the touch of a button it will take quarters or free play.

my advice where your coin door is concerned it to get as much of the paint off as you can, like down to the bare metal, then think about repainting it,i dont think a sand down to get rough stuff off and then painting it would be the way to go.

metal tends to not look good if you dont prep it well.if you can get it shot blasted and powder coated.i dont think your door is supposed to be super smooth so powder coating will do the job and it will look nice also.you will need to be sure all dinks are straightened out for a real good finish as you will see nice paint job spoiled with little dinks if you dont get rid of them.
:)

Regarding the cpo, what about getting it scanned and then printed at a place like mamemarquees? If you really want to go nutso on this, you might even send the whole cp to Scott @ mamemarquees and have him scan and color match it.
