I have a Rally-X UR that has never worked quite right. I have tracked down some broken legs and sockets, and various other issues.

I did have the game working finally, but the BANG sound wasn't working. After troubleshooting that for a while I put the board back in and now the game will not start up and the BANG sound repeats over and over (ironically).

I have gone over the boards three times and I am out of ideas of what else to look for. If I press the reset button on the PCB the sound stops and repeats again when I release it. My suspicion is a bad custom NVC293 as it had a broken leg that I resoldered on, but that is merely a guess as I am stumped.

Anyone have any ideas? Alternatively, if someone has expertise with servicing these I will send it in.

Thanks

Cain

I think I have a short or something in the BANG circuit somewhere. Even after removing 12M I still get a repeating BANG sound (which is what I believe signals it). It was the only thing I could think of to try so I will be going over that circuit with a microscope on the next episode of "Can Tenjy finally fix a pcb?"

NVC-293 is a video shifter -- has nothing to do with sound.

Prob either the '259 at 12M or the 4066 @ 11D

I tried putting in a new 259 and 4066 over the weekend and nothing changed. This is what make me think it may have something to do with the sockets I put in, maybe a solder bridge or something (though I did not see anything under the microscope).

I think what I am going to do is redo the work I did while troubleshooting the missing BANG issue and that might clean it up. Though since I am starting the move to Texas this weekend this is going on the back burner for a while.

As always, I appreciate your help and advice. It was a previous post of yours in response to someone else with a BANG issue earlier this year is what helped me figure it out.

Is the Great Rally board similar to yours?
Not sure if this is in reference to Great 1000 Mile Rally, which it would not be the same since they are like 12 years apart.

If you mean a different game please link me to it in the library so I can have a look at the schematics.

I know nothing of these games, but I have a working great 1000 rally board set. I was just curious if it could help with your troubleshooting as I have no use for it.

Very cool of you to offer and I appreciate it. Unfortunately I cannot make use of it.
