Hey all,
Can any of you guys recall a member (or anyone for that matter) that had an original store sign/advertisement for Yar's Revenge. I can't recall where I saw it. But I do remember one in someone's collection. It's art is different than the cart/gamebox and I would love to have a good scan of it as it would make excellent cabinet side art if I ever make an UR dedicated Yar's game. Thanks in advance.

I couldn't come up with anything from these forums, but I managed to find a pic that may be what you are talking about. (See attachment)

But tell me more about making this Yar's Revenge cabinet. I kinda like that idea.

You sir, are so the MAN! Many thanks. Just purchased one. I'm sure I'll have the buyers remorse later, but as for now, I have a new piece of artwork coming.

As for making a cab from a console game, you just have to strip down a 2600 Atari and fit it into a suitable cab. You could take Yars and leave it a Horizontal game or make it vertical. You could put it in an old Pac cab or Centipede. But you could also go with any horizontal game cab although I can't recall a single nice one at the moment. Use a 4 way Ms Pac stick for the controller. Hook up a video converter board to go between the monitor and the 2600 (unless someone knows a good way to hack a 2600 to an RGB signal. Custom print the artwork for the sides and your done. But hey, it would be alot of work.

Unfortunately, that cannot be done. The TIA chip in the Atari 2600 generates different intensities, but nowhere does separate R, G and B exist in the console. You can hack it to do composite video or S-Video though.

somewhere I have some PC boards that will split composite out to RGB. I think they came out of a laser game cab.

I've always envisioned that an Asteroids Deluxe cab would work well, as the mirror and 3-D backdrop would compliment the Yars Revenge graphics nicely.

Kyle

This is yet another game that I never knew was actually an arcade game before a console game. I totally loved it on the 2600, so now I guess I have to check this one out on MAME (adding it to the already-long list).

Didnt Yars on the 2600 use the paddle or am I thinking of a different game?

I'm pretty sure it used the stick actually. I think the movement required more than just the Y-axis. The sounds of the game were always pretty trippy, I think that's what drew me in. And then there's that funky bar in the middle that looks like your TV has res issues :D

You're thinking of a different game. Yar's Revenge used the joystick.

Star Castle is similar - but rather different. I like Yar's Revenge better.

Yars uses the joystick, I still play it regularly. It also allows movement in 8 directions so an 8 way is necessary. I like Yars better, but I never played Star Castle until about a year ago, so it doesn't hold any nostalgia for me...

What can I say, its been a while....a long while. I probably still have the cartridge in my collection. Never did like the game personally.
