Wow, I can't believe it's only been a year since I bought my first game. It all started with a 1 hour trip to pickup a Simpsons cab for $200 in a Namco Cyberstation on 9/11/10 (sold 6/8/11). Since then I've bought:

Star Wars Trilogy with Namco seat, 10/2
X-men 4 player, 12/3 (my grail)
Ivan Stewart multicab conversion (ugly, parted), 12/14
Neo Geo 4 slot, 12/21
Tron, 2/4
House of the Dead 2, 3/1 (sold 8/22)
Discs of Tron, 3/9 (sold 5/2)
Jurassic Park Lost World pin, 5/11
Donkey Kong, 6/4
Ms Pac, 6/4 (sold 8/5)
Atari Tetris, 7/2 (quasi-grail)
Street Fighter 2, 7/2
Heavy Barrel, 7/31
And to cap it off, I ordered a Tron pro pin on 9/9

Grand total of 13 vids bought, 4 of them being sold, and 2 pins. Not bad for my first year, if I do say so myself. Over all it's been an awesome year. I was almost to the point where my games had paid for themselves (only $1100 out of pocket), but then I ordered the Tron pin. I'm going to cut back for a while now and only buy after I have sold something out of the collection, partially since I am out of room and partially since I will be paying off my Tron pin for the next 3 years (lol).

Through out this whole experience KLOV has been a great resource for me. The technical know how on here is amazing, and the people are very helpful (for the most part, lol). The sense of humor on here is completely different from any other site I'm on. So thank you, fellow KLOV'ers. A big thank you to eXidy for helping me out locally. Without his knowledge and soldering ability, I wouldn't have 1/2 of my machines in playable condition.

Sorry for my long winded trip down memory lane. I just wanted to share my thoughts with you all about my inaugural year of collecting. I can't wait to see what the next year has in store…

I forgot to mention, in this first year I have got 2 of my friends in the hobby as well (and not just the "if you ever see a X", these guys actually own cabinets now). This hobby really is like a disease!

Nice- that's definitely a solid year!! My problem after one year of collecting was getting to all of the problems each machine had. I suppose that's a huge part of it no matter how many years you've been collecting. :)

awesome year! this is my first year as well.
August 2010 was my first visit and purchase at an auction here in texas.
Here is my haul which is much less impressive than yours =)

San Francisco rush Sit Down - 8/2010
San Francisco Rush Sit Down - 6/2011
Final Fight - 6/2011
Raiden 2 - 6/2011
Mortal Kombat 4 (my grail, don't laugh)- 8/2011

Ive gotten pretty much all my know how from Klov and arcade repair tips videos on youtube. This is such a great sit. I have successfully rewired and replaced a lot of stuff now and my next big step is my first cap kit.

anyways, glad to see someone else in it fresh. This is definitely an addicting hobby

Your SF2 and Neo Geo deserve some monitor work. Must haves in every collection IMHO.
I hope you have SF2 HF!

you've done a lot the first year. for some reason, the first months-year of collecting always seems to be a frenzy, or at least it was for me, as i'd just buy whatever i could find and went through quite a few games buying and selling. now, i just pickup things i'm looking for for a permanent status.

I think I'm about to be in that same boat. Most of what I have now are "keepers", where as the one's I have sold weren't. Although I loved Simpsons growing up, it just got old. I love DOT, but the money was too good for it. HOTD 2 was bought for my wife who loves zombie games, but hates moving and aiming at the same time (resident evil) so I though a rail shooter would be her thing. I bought Ms Pac and SFII just because they were cheap with the intent of reselling them.

Of my current collection, the ones that won't be around long are SFII and Heavy Barrel. I'm sure my JPLW will be sold at somepoint as well.

I love Discs of Tron, shame you had to sell it :( I wouldn't be surprised if Demand was on the up like the original Tron cabs, they're just not games you can play it home!

Nice basement as well! :D

Demand was high because of the movie hype. I listed it for my "crazy price", and someone bit right away.

It is a nice basement, but moving games down there sucks...
