I have a lock on a Tron arcade, but there are a few issues that I need to make sure aren't big ones (difficult or potentially expensive to fix)... and this would involve a drive to Georgia also, so its a haul. What you think it's worth would be nice, also...

First is a screen that needs to be expanded and centered, the guy is telling me that he has no key to the back of the cabinet so I would not be able to try and adjust the screen... And I would need to buy it "as is"

Second is the spinner wheel works, but it only spins in one direction (clockwise) and I think the seller said that if you go the other way (counterclockwise) it continutes to move the arm/turrent clockwise. hmmmm.

Cabinet is in decent shape, but certainly not mint.. not trashed either. here's the cab:

Thanks

The screen doesn't need to be expanded. That stuff on the right side is totally normal for Tron (right guys?).

*edit* replacing the spinner is no biggie. I don't think those cost much.

As for worth, I'd say $500 should be the max. Trons are expensive these days and will probably only get more expensive with the movie coming. Plan on dropping another $300-400 into it between art and the spinner.

thanks guys, I need to make a decision on this quick... you know how these Tron's are snagged up! I don't want to lose the opportunity on this one....

And the deal with the spinner.. should I be concerned?

MCR games are notorious for that, my SH has it also. I dont think those white dots above the "CREDITS" are normal though, could potentially be an issue later on. The spinner could be anything from a bad or crossed wire to a bad opti board. I can't imagine it would be too expensive to fix.

Cab looks decent, just needs some side art and a little touch-up work.

I'd personally offer $500 if it works (and if I wanted it, and had the money...). It might be worth a little more than that to you though if its on your most wanted list.

I wouldn't let that deter you. I'm sure others with more knowledge will chime in, but is it the same spinner used in Tempest, or is the pinout different? Either way, a spinner should be relatively easy to find around here I'd imagine.

Tron

The wite dots on the screen look like a reflection of the overhead lights in the room. The collored tear in the screen on the right hand side... All Trons have that. The spinner could be several things.

That is correct, it's 100% normal (the jibberish on the right). I expanded my screen to remove it and the block you sometimes see at the top of the monitor.

As for the back locks... I'm about 90% sure you can reach them from the front of the cabinet by removing the shroud. You'll have to reach through and around to loosen the bottom of the MCP translight, but with some luck you can roll it up and out of the way and just unscrew the bolt on the back of the lock... but you'd risk cracking the translight. ... It's probably be easier to drill out the middle of the top lock and go from there... or call a locksmith if you're really anal about it.

It could use a little love, but at this point in the game... they all can.

If you want it, I say go for it... your money, your drive time, your call. But as far as it being sound, I'd say it's pretty decent.

This forum is so friggin awesome, thanks guys. Looks like I'm going to have a Tron by this weekend.. and I am officially out of cash now, lol. Too many games, not enough money!!

He wants $500 firm, and I have a friend in Jacksonville that can go up and get it for me, so it's actually easy to get this one, as my friend comes down to my place at least once a month.

Tron is a cab that I really want, and they seem rare in Florida. Seems like a fair deal, not a smokin deal, but not a bad deal either.. the best part- I finally get my Tron! :) This one really brings me back to my childhood, the sounds, gameplay, a keeper for sure.

UPDATE- well, the screen has a different issue that originally thought.... and I need opinions on what the fix might be and what it might cost...

As you see the title or attract screens, they are centered and fine.. but when you go into gameplay, the seller told me that the screen appears "folded over" or partially off of the screen... such as when you start the cycle part of the game you can't see the cycle for a short period of time... and part of the guy or all of the guy on the spider screen.

This was leading me to believe that it may be a PCB problem, because the screen is centered correctly in one part, and not the other, so adjusting the screen for the game isn't going to work...

Any ideas? What's the going rate for a working Tron PCB nowdays? I don't want to jump the gun, but the guy is wanting $500 and he's pretty firm on that... but he wants to know what the fix would be also and doesn't want to hose me (glad for that, I've been hosed a few times in the past and it's refreshing to deal with an honest guy)

Any and all feedback appreciated...

If the graphics are glitching only on very specific things (grid bugs, light cycles, tanks) while other graphic elements remain normal, it sounds like there's an issue with the video board.

If that's the case, repairing the vid board (there are guys on here who fix Tron boards- don't know their names offhand) or replacing it should do the trick. I had a similar issue with my Tron (certain graphics like light cycles and grid bugs would dissolve and reappear mid-game) and swapping in a working PCB fixed it.

I'm trying to remember what I paid for my working PCB... $150 or so???

If it's just the PCB, then that's not a bad fix.. but with the spinner needing work on top of that, this may not be the deal I'm looking for as he wants $500 firm as is, not willing to deal at all.

I will say this, the guy has been completely up front with the problems, and for me that's quite refreshing..

If you really want it that bad, just get it. Guys on this forum can either help you to fix it or guide you to right source to get it fixed. Trons are common but they are being snatched quickly as the movie is approaching.

sounds like the monitor needs to be capped or rebuilt. If you can do this work yourself capping would cost $5-15 rebuilding possibly $40-50. Could be a board issue as some think but the folding just sounds like monitor fold over that a cap kit will fix. As for the spinner, this would be my bigger concern as it could be a board or wiring issue. Possibly voltage issue but then I would think it wouldn't register turning either direction. Of course if you have to take this to a tech to get these issues fixed expect to pay a lot more.

Cab is in good shape but with the issues it has typically it would fetch $400. Those damn video gen boards do act up here and there and sometimes are an easy fix like a "good ol' fashion chip reseattin'" or it could be a ram or eeprom problem. Also check the linear power supply PCB if you ever break into the cab and see if it has the battery in it. Gank it off if it hasn't puked all over the board yet.

I've seen the graphic breakup on the right on at least 3 games, including mine. I say get the damn thing because the bottom doesn't seem to have too much damage...albeit the hidden/left side looks a little weird in the corner. Regardless, it's not bad, and seems to be working enough that you can troubleshoot it. Since you really aren't going to pay to have it shipped...I'd say grab it.

BTW the graphic on the bottom right side is there because the way the game was programmed. It can be adjusted off screen but is basically there on all trons. And MCR games for the most part. Don't let that stop you from buying.

not the 3 i own....

Can't speak for your 3 but the 2 trons I own, three other collectors that own trons locally and 5 tron board sets that I have tested have all had this. Two satan's hollows that I have seen(the only two satan's hollows I've personally seen) also have this. And I've heard multiple times from different unrelated sources that repair boards and know far more than I that this is part of the programming. As I mentioned it can be adjusted off screen so you do not see it if you choose. Which could explain why you don't see it on your games. In case I'm missing something in this thread I'm talking about the first pic posted in the thread.
