Look! It's a Street Fighter! It's a Mortal Kombat! No, it's...

Defender! *Superman music*

How much would you guys offer for a Defender converted into a Street Fighter, converted into Mortal Kombat? Nice looking cab, huh? I'd love this chance to make it a JROK Multi-Williams.

I would probably offer $50. That things a mess.

Yeah I agree, not very much.

I was thinking that too. The guy wants $400 for it. Pbbbt...

I'd still like to explain to him why my offer would be that low. Heck, I wouldn't even care if he stripped the Mortal Kombat board and marquee out of it, despite the fact that I like Mortal Kombat.

Any other opinions about this poor cab?

I kinda wonder if the art is hiding underneath all of the black paint. People around here have wacko prices.

I agree it would be really sweet if there was some pristine Defender art hanging out under the black paint.

Yeah it's crazy how uninitiated people try and get a ton of cash from a not very lovely cab.

$400? Damn! Not sure who would pay anywhere near that. It would make a good test cab. I'm sure it could be fixed up nice. Still for me personally, I would be at the $50 range. $75 max if I felt I really wanted it.

really you should be paying all of us for wasting out time even looking at that thing.

seriously, if he wants $400, why would your mind even entertain the idea that you could talk him down low enough to make it worth your while to turn it into a (bad) multi williams?

Ouch... Maybe it's time to quote Rudy from Funhouse, "What did I ever do to you?"

You realize I have 6 dedicated machines, right? I've always been a fan of Williams games. I used to live in Illinois and was surrounded by Williams games. Down here, it's difficult to even find a converted Williams game!

I know that I wouldn't exactly make it a dedicated Defender, but a Multi-Williams would be a much better fate than a fighter mash-up.

I'm sorry if you feel that I wasted your time. I meant no harm by it. I'm just passionate about this hobby. I figure, why not give it a shot?

Yeah no shame in trying. Especially if any kind of Williams cab doesn't show up very often in your neck of the woods. ^^

If I wanted a Williams cabinet for a multiwilliams then I would probably be willing to do up to $200 on that. The fighter parts in it would kick back some cash and that one does have the silver coin door that some people go bonkers for.

It seems that Williams cabinets are getting harder and harder to come by. There wasn't a single one at the last three auctions I went to.

If I wasn't specifically looking for a Williams cabinet then I probably wouldn't go over $100 on that.

I would think you could sell the mortal kombat board and marquee for $150 so personally I would pay $300 if I wanted that cab if I really wanted it I'd guess I'd even pay more. But I got a free zaxxon cab and spent like $400 restoring it when I could have bought a complete one for less so maybe I'm not to thrifty. But i think its not always about the price but more location and desire.

Thank you for the encouragement! I agree with both of you on those points. I guess it depends on how low the guy is willing to go. Can't find a Williams game in Southern Colorado to save my life! I've seen more Williams pins though.

I hear you guys on the fighter parts. I wouldn't have much use for those parts at this time, but someone else might! I could get some money back to feed that Defender cab. I was even considering giving the cab a Defender art treatment as opposed to Multi-Williams, however that's further down the line. I bet that Zaxxon appreciates it! Speaking of Sega, I have a Choplifter I have my eyes on. It used to be a M.A.C.H. 3. It seems that there were a few M.A.C.H. 3 cabs converted into Choplifter.

Thanks again for the replies, both positive and negative!

Good luck getting to it. Unlike vinyl cabinets that can be cleaned of the black paint stenciled Williams cabinets to will take the original paint off with the black. Just ask Broodwich.

I have actually had incredible luck on Williams cabinets using 3M safest stripper and in one case just peeling the paint off. However the robotron I tried recently did not cooperate.

Yikes! That sucks!

Hmm. I'll have to look into Defender stenciling. I'll search for some tips for these cabs.

Thanks for letting me know, but first I have to see if my offer works!

I'm guessing that the Defender art was painted over, even the front. I could see how Robotron wouldn't be as forgiving, but if there's a ton of black paint on Defender it might not be so bad to use this 3M stripper.

Really great info! This would be pertinent to anyone working on these Williams cabs.

Yeah that's true he can always use a repro stencil though I guess. ^^

I would add that you don't want to tell him you plan on converting it! I did that once with a guy who had a Golden Tee that was apparently his labor of love. He wouldn't sell it to me. Apparently there aren't enough Golden Tees in the world...he had to use a Killer Instinct cab and make another one!
