So I log into KLOV last night to see that Lon had left me a message the day before telling me he was driving through the area tonight and asked if I wanted him to stop by and roll my Joust. It was short notice but my lovely wife agreed and I left work a little early to meet him here and he is playing now in my basement. I am honored to be lucky enough to be part of his journey.

Take a short video clip or picture .

Here is a short clip. He is either very close or past 5,000,000 now.

I was not aware of the different ROM versions and you can hear us talking about them a little in the clip. When I bought this Joust, it wouldn't boot. I had a complete Joust boardset so I threw the ROM board from that in and it has worked ever since. I did not take note of the ROMs themselves. I just looked at the board I removed and the ROMs all have a green label, so I guess I want to try and fix that board.

Ok, going back to watch. It is simply amazing to watch Lon play. And he is a very nice guy as well. :)

Game Galaxy is trying to become the only place the Joust Champion has never played. So far we are succeeding!

Here is the recorded score. I played several lives after he rolled it and let me tell you, he may make it look easy, but it isn't. He was a very nice guy. I am so glad I got to meet him. My 10 year old daughter enjoyed watching him play too.

Thank you Lonnie for stopping by and playing my Joust! I hope to meet you again in the future.

Awesome !!

Here is one last clip when he was over 8 million. It's one thing to see the "tricks" of the game, it is another thing entirely to be able to pull them off.

Joust

Great game but so many flaws. To me joust is to be played head to head battling someone. Just gets old pretty fast playing alone. Those "unbeatable" pterodactyl are so lame. Still to constantly score 10000000 he is a great player cant take away from that.

Are you kidding?
It's interesting to watch, but not for over 4 hours.

Fun to see the tips and tricks and methods and moves, but after a while, it's just repetitious.
It becomes 10 waves of the same thing again and again.

Lon has it down to a science almost. He knows about how long it will take to roll, gauges himself on points/hour, knows almost which WAVE he'll roll it on, hundreds of men remaining at the end, etc.
He knows when the difficulty stops increasing, when different tactics stop working. He's almost got the enemy AI decoded in his head. By knowing where they're going and how to make them move, I'm not sure what joy he gets out of it.
He'll leave an accomplishment to beat though.

Fun to watch.

I love the fact that Lon still enjoys playing the game after all these years and after he has pretty much mastered everything about it.

Keep in mind that when he first mastered it, there was no internet where you could go watch videos of how things are done or where there are websites dedicated to revealing all the secrets to winning. If he got any help at all, it had to come from other players in his area that he knew. And I seem to recall him saying that he came from a small town of like 4000 people, so odds are he figured it all out on his own.

Personally, I don't think there is anything "lame" about Joust at all. It is one of my favorite games. Not that I had any intention of ever selling it to begin with, but now that Lon has baptized it for me, I know it will remain in my collection until I'm gone.
