I just purchased an HP 1630d logic analyzer and it is great. The only issue I have with it is How long it takes to connect the leads. Does anyone know if a probe exists that will clip over a 16 pin dip 7400 series ic so I can quickly test if the logic chips are bad without having to connect a bunch of probes each time?

Good choice of logic analyzer for testing thse old boards. Very easy to use and works great.

Yes, there are DIP-Clips made specifically for doing this. As an example -- go to Mouser and search for part number 927738-24. This is probably the most expensive version out there but it is an example of what is available. You will see these popup on ebay once in awhile at a fraction of the price. Just make sure it isn't broken at the post where you attach the test leads - these tend to break easily.

And, I do know there are versions out there that allow you to attach the HP's leads directly to the clip without the little alligator clips...but I can't remember who makes them.

Would be much faster I think to use a logic probe but yeah you could use a dip clip:
