Well I have a love hate relationship with lock picking.

Seems when I get a new game and try to pick the lock I have no luck. Then I will leave it alone for a few weeks and try again. This time I usually am able to open it in less than 5 minutes.

I have no idea why this is. weird.

So I was able to pick the lock on my Pengo. Found $2.75 in quarters.

Now there is one lock I do not believe I will ever get picked: My payphone.

personally i just drill it every time, locks are cheap and i key all my game the same.

so really no point in saving a lock :p

That sounds about right with the initial fail and then success with picking locks . You fail initially cause you want to succeed and succeed when you probably don't care. I like doing it for fun but kkcloak is right. It's more efficient to just drill out ESP if your going to replace them anyway.

That payphone lock is the infamous Western Electric lock. It's never been proven to be
unlocked or picked since it's conception. One of the most impossible locks to pick ever designed.

Just drill it! :)

Western Electric locks are also case hardened so drilling is not fun.

I agree Ken.

I drilled one of these locks a few years ago, never again. Took me two drill bits and over two days of drilling. Then I had to pull all the metal ribs that were in there.

i got lucky with my payphone. didnt come with keys, but the lock was a MEDECO, not easy
to pick, but after watching some YT videos and 20-30 minutes of time, i picked it open!

now its getting deep here....

Buy them keyed alike.

Sounds simple..... except it's not. I already bought new locks for what I currently have(the last ones I bought at Home Depot, because I only needed 2).... unless I replace ALL the locks every time I get a new cabinet, that's probably not going to work. I really don't want to wait until I've got all the games I'll ever want, you know?

It really is that simple...so long as you stop buying lock-sets from Home Depot. Several internet sellers offer lock-sets cut to a specific key-code. So long as they stock those lock-sets on that key-code, you can buy as many as you would like at anytime in the future.

I bought a box of 50 keyed-alike lock-sets about 20 years ago. I just swap them in and out of games as them come and go from my collection.

I'm sure someone on KLOV can point you to the best website to buy them.
