Congrats Dan! I know you were looking for that for a long time now.

Will you have any luck finding art and another cab to put it in? Or you just happy with swapping the board out in your Pepper II?

yep. At least that's what HHL refers to...

How cool is that! They look like the same cab style as well don't they? I may have some NOS art for it. Let me go dig around in my stash.

*look look*

Oh, sorry. I must have tossed it. Tell us the story though!

Well for those who have never heard of hard hat, it's basically an Exidy game that didn't do too well in the arcade and came and went in the blink of an eye. There were only 100 total hard hat units produced. To clarify hard hat was sold as both a kit and a dedicated cab. The combined total number of kits and dedicated machines was 100. In searching for this I came across a few people that had once had a hard hat board or knew someone who had once had one. With the exception of the one dedicated machine that was at CAX in 97 and 98, all the stories I heard went like this. I used to have a hard hat board but it didn't work so I threw it in the trash. As for the one that made it to CAX, it was sold on ebay in 98 and then sold again by that buyer a few years later on ebay. From there the trail went cold. No one knows where it went it would seem. I located a manual at one point and was pretty stoked about that. For a while I was on a mission to turn a pepper II into a hard hat via rom swap. I got very close but still had issues. I searched ebay and CL daily and found nothing until yesterday when caddysrule sent me a text saying he had found a hard hat board. I wasn't sure if he was messing with me or serious. He was serious and today I met up with him to hang out and pick up the board. It was missing a couple of things when I got it but after swapping in a missing chip and the missing satellite board the game fired right up.

gonna scratch build a cab and have the art redrawn and reproed.

The game was written by Larry W. Hutcherson Sr. (it says that while it's booting up)...maybe that's where the name Larry comes from?

Nice score. I have a Venture cab that is in good shape and does not have any art on it (bare white) that I am probably going to list shortly as I finally found a dedicated one. I know you are a long way away, but if you know any one heading west from MI and are interested, let me know.

Very nice Dan. Do you actually have a source to copy the art from? Congrats....it's neat to hear you got something you have been searching for. It would also be interesting if any info turns up on that one that disappeared.

Congrats from myself to Dan...it's always quite gratifying when you finally find a grail! :)

Looking forward to playing some Hard Hat at CAX :D .

Hey, we should have a contest!

I have some good pics from the one that was known to exist. Technically I wouldn't have a perfect copy like a scan to go from but I have a good friend who is an awesome artist and can redraw it based on the reference of the pepper II cab I have. Should be extremely close to original.
