Local craigslist score... Arachnoid sorta, kinda lol well you guys know the deal.

So I have been hunting around for a taito cab that's not stripped to the bone for a project. So I run across a CL post the other day for an arachnoid. I figure this is too good to be true but fire off an email anyway. Now I am wondering the whole time while waiting for a reply what kind of cab is thing going to be in.

I get the email back from the guy and it seems I am the first on his reply list. So we bat back and fourth a few emails in which one of the emails I asked for some pictures. He replied back pretty quick with 4 pictures. I was thinking cool here we go it's the cab I need, it's the cab I need. lol

Well as soon as I open the first picture I am like wth is that? I get to looking at all the pictures and then rush to Klov to confirm to myself that yep it's a converted burgertime. I am thinking like heck yea now and have all but forgot about the damn taito cab.

Anyway I quickly fire off an email back to the guy and I say I will take it. I told him in that mail I would pick it up on Saturday morning. Well to make A long story short I got a little jumpy and hit him back with another email saying I would get it on Friday night. He quickly came back and said either day is fine with him.

So anyway we rolled up last night and picked the machine up. The guy was very friendly and a man of his word. He didn't let anyone else get the cab except me. All I can say is if your on this forum fixing the rest of your collection my hat is off to you sir! Not very many like you at all on CL.

It's a working machine atm but I don't like the hacked up wiring. So I have jerked the arachnoid board out of it. I am also gathering up my supplies now so I can go ahead and put a jamma harness in it today.

I see a few guys have an adapter to run the burgertime board in a jamma wired machine. So I think that is the best course atm.

The control panel looks like they just unbolted the joystick and put the spinner in. So I am good there because I have a spare mspac joystick around here somewhere.

I don't see any way possible to save the artwork that's been painted over. It's kind of a mixed bag on that. I know the ops need to switch stuff out so they could make more money when people stop playing certain machines.

But damn this is a very clean and solid cabinet with very minor dings. So I am really stoked all in all about the cab. I have come to hate machines that need a lot of work on the cabs. Granted this one needs stripped and painted but nothing needs replaced or restored wood wise.

So in answer to your question Keith yes this one will be a burgertime again but a jamma wired one. The stencils will be the last phase. All the other art work will be on my buy list next month along with some paint and orange t-moulding.

Try using Citrustrip or a similar product before writing the artwork off; if you monitor the amount of time that it's on the cabinet, you may be able to pull the top layer off.

Why do so many people call the game "arachnoid". It has nothing to do with spiders or my avatar.

Just like it says on the Marquee..."Arkanoid"

I just rolled with the first one that came up with google ajax suggested search. Clearly I wasn't paying attention.

Carry on sir... carry on.

I hear ya... Kevin
wassup man?

Cathy is in the process of test stripping a few spots now and found another coat of blue under the black. I have a couple different kinds of stripper here so if Cathy can't save the art nobody can.

I am hoping that the front art might clean up nice. That is vinyl isn't it?

I had two people inthe last week refer to the game as arachnoid. They saw my collection and one said "what's that game called with the bouncing ball and the blocks? I said Breakout or Arkanoid, and the first guy corrected me saying "yea that's it arachnoid". Guy two saw my collection and said "Man that's cool I always used to play arachnoid, know where I can find one of them?"

Just a funny thing to me, like people calling it NBA Jams...

Mine started out as a cabinet missing the boardset, power supply (suitcase), some wiring, monitor..

I had it for a couple of years before I ever came across the power supply assembly that sits in the bottom of the cabinet. Seemed like those type of parts hardly turn up, so I'd probably do the JAMMA route like you say.

If you actually WANT a Burgertime, then by all means, go all out, get the stencils, and repaint the cabinet. It's a nice starting point. There's talk of repro stuff for it being done soon..marquee, and hopefully the bezel at some point, as my bezel isn't great.

I think it has some parts in common with Ms Pac, such as the monitor mounting hardware, the black plastic bezel, tinted plexi, coin door.

I read the entire post before getting to the pics and finally realized he was talking about Arkanoid.

People mispronounce it for two reasons.

1. They're not video game nerds, so to them.... it's not really that important.

2. The marquee is really stylized, so at a quick glance it's kind of hard to read. If it was in big block square letters or something nobody'd probably mess it up.
