From must of the forums I have seen that my loss of sound could come from this IC. Bob Roberts and Arcade shop seem to have these but without the heat sink on them. The question is how do I apply the heat sink? Someone had recommended super glue. Another person had indicated that you have to use one from an old board because you can't put the IC and the heat sink together. Please let me know what you think and if any of you have had this issue.
thanks

You needa pretty heavy duty iron and good technique to pull the amp & heat sink... I've done it a bunch of times w/o damaging hte board.... just need to be careful.

LM377 really needs the heat sink... LM1877 seems to do OK without it...

I desolder the outside pins with my desoldering station and then use both the desoldering station and a solder gun to clean up the six center pins. The center pins are all grounds and are soldered together along with the heatsinks tabs. This is how the heatsink is held on. Dont use too much heat when installing the new one or you can damage it.
FYI, jrpac also uses 1877 but they didnt have a heatsink. Like Mark said they run warm but I would still use the heatsink on the pac.
