well im pissed, Live went up another 10 a year. The reason being for espn and hulu. Im gonna bet my life they charge for those as well which is fucking bullshit.

thoughts?

This is why I've always stocked up on year subscription cards when they're on sale. I've never paid more than $30 for a year at a time. Of course, once my gf started playing L4D, I went through most of those a bit faster :p I think I still have one left...

Really, I don't care much (mainly because I never pay full price) since I've always been satisfied with the Live service. PSN Plus is the one I don't understand why anyone would pay for...

Keep an eye out for deals over the next couple of months - they will be there (Wal*Mart, Amazon, Dell, and Buy.com are the usual suspects).

My account is up either at the end of next August I think. I probably won't renew, as I almost never play online. I only had it to play 1 vs 100, since my wife loved that game, but now that it's gone, I see no need to extend my gold account.

I saw this also sucks. The new features for the extra $10 I don't care about. I mostly just subscribed to play Borderlands last year and I like the Netflix interface best on the 360. Owell, might let it run out and use the PS3 netflix.

Its an $0.83/month increase. Is that something to really get pissed about? You don't have to have XBL if you don't want...

Yea I'm pissed because they tell me its for features that either I already have on my television and comp. And I'm sure there gonna charge for them on top of the increase..

Who has an xbox without cable tv? No one. Why do we need espn.
Who has an xbox without a computer connected online ? No one. why do we need hulu

I can agree with that, though the "inflation" reason is more relevant (though still retarded when you consider a new video game for today's system runs roughly the same price as a new cartridge based video game from the 80's...though the argument could be made cart vs disc which is valid as well).

I could name a few. In fact, I could name myself up until about a year ago.

This is more of a valid argument, but of those people, how many can steam hulu to their TVs without buying additional hardware/cables? I could, but don't because of the bit of trouble it would take me to setup with my current setup at home.

With iTunes I have started to think what if I took my budgeted Cable bill and just bought all my programming on iTunes and cancelled the cable.

I would own the programming, instead of renting it. After a few years I would own enough to start my own network. Allot of the show I watch are reruns anyway!

With iTunes playlists you could set up your own channels to watch.

My cable bill is $125 a month, thats $1500 a year.

at $3 a TV show thats 500 tv shows (Season Passes are often cheaper)
at $15 a Movie thats 100 movies

After 5 years - 2500 TV Shows or 500 movies

And then there's netflix to add on.
And yes I know you could just download everything for free.

PSN Plus is the one I don't understand why anyone would pay for...

I bought PSN plus and am actually pretty happy with it. Since launch I have downloaded 2 PS3 games 3 PS1 tittles and 4 or 5 mini games, not to mention the themes and avatars. Most of these games I would have never given a second look at if I had to pay for them ($4.99-$19.99 a game) A few of them have been really fun and I have spent a lot of time playing them. You lose them once your account expires, but if it keeps up the way it is I'll renew every year. You also get Qore and discounts on various games with the subscription.

Right - I guess I just don't really see the appeal. I'm hoping the additional income they get will enhance the online quality, but I'm not so sure that it will. There is a lot lacking from the service in general that just dumbfounds me and it doesn't seem that paying the subscription fee really makes it any less frustrating. Then again, I supposed I'm biased after using Live for the last few years.

Here's hoping the income does in fact improve what the PSN service can offer over time. I'll be keeping an eye on it, but there just doesn't seem to be much incentive (in my opinion) when online play is still part of the free service.

Of course, I may not really know all the incentives. Sure, I've read some articles about it...seems you get some games at a discount, maybe some for "free" (though how many, really? And they're not free until you go over the $50 subscription fee). Unless there's a pretty good library of "free" stuff other than just exclusive demos and the like, I don't know that I'd be interested.

But that's really a topic for another thread...feel free to start one if you want to educate us Live subscribers :D
