Auctions (Other) Live Captains auction

I'm kinda surprised no one scrapes captains for photos/prices for long-term posterity.

That said, SoCal prices don't really seem that indicative of the rest of the country.

What are the alternatives? I'm looking to open a retro arcade and Captains seems like a nice one stop shop, even though it's on the other side of the country, is there anything similar or alternatives for a large-ish quantity of retro games to start up a retro arcade?

If you buy stuff from captains please know they hide a lot of issues or disguise them to make machines seem like they are in better shape then they actually are. If you are no stranger to restoring games or doing in depth repairs I'm sure you will be fine, but I've bought several machines that "looked" much better from the certain angles they took pictures from only to be pretty beat upon arrival.

I once bought a dynamo air hockey table, which was advertised as working great very clean, during the live stream they were playing it. Upon arrival it wouldn't boot up at all, looked back at the stream and realized it was never running and the employees were just batting around a puck without scoring it to make it seem like it was playing. I have other stories like this one, but this one chapped my ass real bad.

Oh man that sucks. Sorry to hear that it happened to you

Do you know any other alternatives to Captains?

Don't forget shipping is ridiculous now too. I haven't shipped a game in awhile but sounds like beltman is very pricey now and also you have to pay the captain a fee on hammer price.

Seems like a topic you should start in the general forum - there's constantly "decent" prices on facebook and classifieds in my area. But honestly, you sound like you're running head first into a situation you're not prepared for.

"One stop shop" is a screaming red flag of someone not prepared for what temperamental little bitches arcade machines can be. Even if you bought the best beautifully refurbished machines, they're still comprised of 40 year old parts that can go bad easily, especially when being on for 8+ hours every day.

There was a huge opportunity when the Banning/MOP games were auctioned off to grab pictures for the database. Never materialized.

Captains is just running the auction part of things, whether it be consignment or selling off bulk purchases.

You can say the same for any auction: cars, estate, etc. You have the chance to inspect anything you're bidding on before the auction.

Thanks will start a thread there. I understand your opinion. I have about 10 machines I've collected over the years and understand they can be problematic, especially monitors. But when starting up an arcade I would want to stock it up and purchase in bulk. Also my area sucks for Facebook ads, everyone wants absurd amounts for crappy machines and any machine that is decent and decent price gets scooped up by the same guy who re-lists it the next day or so for double what he paid for. It's annoying.

It happened, but the prices appeared a day or two later. The past auctions will usually get removed about a week after.
They remove the ability to easily browse the catalogs, but the actual item links still stay live forever it seems if you have the direct link. If you add it to your watchlist, you can check it eventually. I wasn't aware they had a twitch archive, I actually just like listening to an auction in the background sometimes so Ill have to watch those lol.

Listing has been removed for the upcoming Dec 12-14 Auction. Winning bids were not posted.

Looks like this will be the norm moving forward.

So if a consignor sell a piece, and don't watch the live auction, I guess they would have to take their word on how much it was sold for.

Chris is a friend of mine (we're essentially neighbors), I doubt he would ruin his name over something like that - especially since it's livestreamed on YouTube/twitch.
