List of useful parts to get started fixing arcade games.

Perfect! Just what I was looking for. REP for you!

Thanks!

always make sure to check the date code on the solder because the flux does have a shelf life. the link andrewb had is new stuff but there are alot of places that might be cheaper or higher and make sure the solder is NEW and not NOS.

Lets not call this a newbie list if you're including an oscilloscope...

Soldering Station
Solder
Solder Sucker
Multimeter
Side Cutters
Crimper / wire stripper
TV adjustment tools

Start there and you can build, most people getting started don't have the knowledge on how to use a bunch of fancy stuff. Start with the basics, start buying new gear as you need it and learn how to use it.

If you include a logic comparator then I would certainly recommend getting as many reference ICs as you can. I got about 100 or so 74LS ICs from Futurlec, pretty much covered the entire series. Be aware that they will source them out so it may be a while before you get them (2 or so months in my case). Well worth it though...

Alternatively, you can get a fair amount of ICs from scrap boards, just make sure they are functional using an EPROM programmer or an IC checker device.

Thanks for posting that. I think it's accurate for a getting started list. It was also a reminder for me that I still hadn't gotten around to getting TV adjustment tools. Found a decent set on Amazon. I also read that they're getting hard to find. Is that true? Would make sense since new, old school CRTs were banned for sale back in 2010.

no they are not hard to find. i stock them and i also have the identical 16inch one that BR sold and ran out of long ago which is great for the sanyo chassis, etc.
