Linking San Francicso Rush (the Rock)

It's one of the more reliable and affordable racers, plenty of bang for the buck.

Price depends a lot on condition and location, but they are typically in the $500 range (+/-).

I just sold a fine example for $500...

:D

Yeah, $350 on the beatup side to maybe $600 on the top end... IMHO.

These are supposed to be pretty reliable... but I'll throw in some 'excepts'....

The monitor.... Neotec, many have crappy picture tubes.... you might get lucky with a rejuve, you might not.
The forced feedback steering controller PCB. Prone to certain failures, not always easy to find a good one. The OPA chips are available, so if you have a failed one you can replace it, though they aren't cheap (but they are cheaper than buying another board). I have one right now that works fine for a while, then gives an overheat alert and cuts out, then cuts back in. Temps don't seem crazy, so think it might be something with the temp sensing circuit (or the sensor).

Beyond that I've seen issues with stuck/non working interfaes. One board I had car was stuck in reverse.... I think that is due to a bad large surface mount QFP chip for I/O. Another the steering didn't work. On a hunch, I pulled the AD converter (through hole) from the stuck in reverse board and put it in the no steering board and made a working board.

I really like this game. I'd like to get a second unit.

Mine is an upgraded San Francisco Rush. The San Fran Rush is an all one piece cabinet. The Rush the Rocks (when not an upgraded San Fran Rush) can be split into 2 pieces.

Mine wasn't stored well, so it is a bit beat up in places, but it's still a blast to play.

I got both mine for $300 each, fully working, but one was just starting to experience HD issues, and the other had a bunk monitor (missing red).

I got 2 CF kits and adjusted the bad monitor.

since our KLOV db sucks ass, the page for "SF: Rock" is mainly incomplete:

What does the pcb (or pcb set) look like?

Why the fuck is the pcb NOT JAMMA? this is a 1997 game ffs!

How many eproms are there?

Is there a hdd w/software that is needed?
- if so, what type of hdd, what size, does ssd work?

So many questions!

Just as an addition to the original question. You need to make sure to use a hub not a switch/router.

These need to be on the same wire (layer 1) not switched (layer 2).

I've had two connected with a switch just fine (both units having a straight through cable).
Maybe more than 2 units you need a hub?? Not sure about that.

I only removed it as I found a crossover coupler.

Or you can use a crossover cable from one to the other.
