i know that there's a way to link more than two Rushs online with the help of a raspberry pi, but i'm curious how many machines you can link together with the help of link kits (without the pi solution). i'm asking this because i would have space for THREE Rushs in my gameroom-to-be and have to decide whether to go for three machines or two "only"!
any help is appreciated!!!

I used my old router that was sitting in the closet. Just get 3 ethernet cords. Plug each one into the jack on the pcb then plug the other ends into the router or whatever you use as a hub. If that makes sense.

Yeah you shouldn't need a pi or computer if you just was a local network, only if you wanted internet linking

Just a router and cables

Yeah it's just that easy. (3) cat5 cables and and a 10mb/s hub from the closet or a salvation army. You don't need switching or a router or anything fancy. These are old skool.

And with only 2, you can use a crossover cable to just connect the 2.

I had an issue where one of my boards played well, but the network port was fried :( And there's network testing in the testing menu....

make room for 8 machines!

Don't you also need to change the device number for each cab in the service menu network settings? And run the network diagnostic, once, so the units can "find" each other? That's how it works for Rush 2049.

I have 4 that were free so might have to link some up before I sell some off after I fix them :)

Im not sure, mine worked pretty easy, just plug and play. Of course one of my pcbs had the ethernet jack all ripped apart but I soldered in a replacement and it was good to go.

No need to set anything as far as an 'ID' goes.

Simply connect them up - two machines can use a crossover, anymore and you need a hub/switch.

Make sure each game is set for a DIFFERENT car color.
That's it. No 'identifying' needs to be done, no special settings need to be set. That's it. :)

It's REALLY easy. :001_sbiggrin:

thx guys, sounds really REALLY easy. no need to connect the router to the internet? does it only serve as a hub for the machines communicating with eath other?

only problem now (apart from the fact that i have to find machines first): i wanna have more than three! ;)

Only need to connect it to the internet if you're going to race someone over the internet. :)

The machines just talk to each other, no outside network needed. :)

Too bad your overseas..I have 7 or 8 of these..They were free for the taking and I'm a sucker for when stuff is free and I like the game lol

I just have a simple crossover cable to connect mine. Gregg (ArcadeImpossible) is still fine-tuning this, but plans to eventually make it openly available to those that want access. He's currently away at PAX Australia, so he'll likely eventually post here once he recovers..

The biggest hurdle with the VPN is the coordination of which connection has which colors. For example, if two people join the VPN session with blue cars, it will disrupt the 1st person that connected. I think we were discussing having assigned car colors and a spreadsheet of which people are assigned to which VPN connection. A little more overhead, but without a front-end GUI available, its the only way to overcome communication collisions.

Reminds me, I need to send him my SD card for configuration so we can do some additional testing.

Seems like everyone in the world wants these now!!!

How much can I expect to pay for 1 working SF: Rush (the Rock)?

It's one of the more reliable and affordable racers, plenty of bang for the buck.

Price depends a lot on condition and location, but they are typically in the $500 range (+/-).

Ha..I know where there is 4 or 5 more hahahaha If I had space I would grab them hahaha
