I'm looking into linking a couple of Cruisin USA cabs together , it looks like you need rom version 4.1 and two linking chips plus linking cable. Anyone done this successfully? Anything else I need to be aware of and am I correct.?

Not yet. I have a pair of Cruisin USA cabs I was going to link but one had 2.0 and the other 4.1. I had Hobby Roms burn me an upgrade but its freezing here in Utah so it will have to wait a couple months till it warms up. There is alot of posts of this proceedure in other threads. I also heard you have to have the linking security chip 19993 at U38.The cable I heard was a Male to male DB25 SCSI\serial cable. On the dip switch you have to set one as the master and one as the slave. Good luck and post if it worked.

Well I have a download of the security chip file for the linking rom. Question now is what is the PAL part number and also I have seen people supposedly do dumps of security chips in MAME and they were crap dumps since the security fuse kept them from actaully duamping them. Has anyone used the PAL dumps in mame to make a working linking rom?

There's ways to coax data out of a protected chip. Most famously, you can crack a XOR key just by feeding zeroes into the decryptor. There's also scarier tricks involving screwing with the input voltage. Even if you can't get the IC to directly give up the goods, there's always rainbow tables...
