Please go editing the game on the dev site and test it out.

First go to https://dev.arcade-museum.com/gamesbeta

Then log in and go to a game, and below the game title hit 'edit' or 'revisions' to see the revision history...

Please edit a game and make sure no fields get lost or info gets lost in the process. Check out revisions to see how our audit log for same works.

Please let me know what needs fixing. Likely there is something that is.

Note: Dev data is dev data. Any changes you make to the dev site will eventually get overwritten.

When you edit a game, there is a mandatory 'Comment:*:' field at the bottom, which is used to create a short summary of the purpose of your edit.

Once edits are made, you can see the revision history on a game and can compare revisions to see what a particular user changed to a record.

See https://dev.arcade-museum.com/contribute/revisions/game/22347 for example. Compare the 2 revisions.

Note: not all fields are editable yet (especially some of the structured data fields near the top of a record. We continue to work to improve the system.

Thanks for giving us access to beta test this feature!

I chose X-Men to make some changes to, and I think it works well! My edits seemed to save.
Are we not supposed to be able to override the Monitor information box in specs? My changes were saved, but only appeared as an additional bullet point in the Monitor section.

When this goes to a wider audience, would you be creating a dedicated discussion board for database edits/conventions? For example, the debate between whether or not X-Men (2-4 player PCB) and X-Men (6P) should have their own pages (same with warlords)

And to that point, while it seems like we can edit, is the intent to allow users to also add new pages? Or will that still require moderator action?

No, monitors are not supposed to do that. It took structured data and turned it into unstructured data.

Also, I can see there is an error in how it was displaying your revisions too..... Ok... I'll add for the developer to look at quickly...

My bad... actually it did exactly what it was supposed to. The monitor field is unstructured additional information. The structured data fields like the monitor orientation etc, hasn't gone live yet... hopefully within a week or so. So it did what it was supposed to, it was just wasn't clear because the structured data fields aren't on line yet.

The issue with the revision error that I noticed is something to be fixed.

I chose the game Twinklestar Sprites which is misspelled as Twinkestar Sprites in the database, missing the "l" in Twinkle. Which leads me to the question how can I edit the game name? Or am I not supposed to?
Otherwise all my edits seem to have gone through.
Thanks for alll the effort!

Okay, I went to edit another game. This time I chose Firefox. Here are my notes:
  • "Miscellaneous" is spelled wrong in the edit page, both in section header, and the info box.
  • Genre doesn't populate non default genres. Firefox was previously labelled "Air Combat" but that isn't an option, so I assigned it as "Shooter" which saved.
    • Furthermore, would it be possible to assign Genres as "tags" so that a game could have multiple genres?
  • Are any of the other Specs such as Conversion Class, Cabinet Styles or settings meant to be editable?
Otherwise seemed okay. What was the revision error? Did I miss something?

I noticed that Asteroids has an additional "Released by" tab which includes some nonsensical (to me) entries?
I can't even edit that field, as I could not find it on the edit page.
I did not see this on other games.

Editing game names is intentionally turned off at the moment. It's complex on the new site. The old site used game id # for the URL. The new site uses game name. That gets complicated with duplicate names, which needs slightly modified URLs. So changing a game name means that it would need to check if the default URL is already in use, and if so, deal with it. I'm guessing this ability won't fully hit until 3rd or 4th week of April.

On both production and dev, I just manually fixed (name and URL) Twinklestar Sprites...

Miscellaneous -- I see the section labeled "Miscellanious information including licensors, copies, bootlegs, aliases, etc:" has the typo... where is the other one?

Regarding Genre -- genre is really messy right now... largely due to very inconsistent use of multiple genre fields in the existing data. There is also classifications of genres to review etc. So it's really still pending. Having multiple genres is a good idea and I'll review.

Conversion Class is editable from a drop down currently. If we need to add an additional conversion class, an admin will do it.

Cabinet Styles -- that is coming hopefully later this week.

Every day more and more fields are editable. It's more time intensive that you would imagine for a variety of reasons, including that we are maintaining revision tracking on everything.

For all these years, games have had a simple 'Manufacturer' field. For example, Pac-Man had Midway listed under Manufacturer.

We renamed Manufacturer to Developer, and then added the extra 'Released By' fields. We are in the middle of building it out and it should be editable tomorrow or the next day.

For Asteroids, yes it had bogus data. I've removed that from the production site and it still exists on dev.

You didn't see it on other games because it only appeared on Asteroids and Galaga at the moment. https://www.arcade-museum.com/Videogame/galaga

Currently, most fields are editable on game except for game controls.

BTW: on the dev site, testers can now edit manufacturers. We also just added 'country' as a field for manufacturer and preloaded most data. We've also added 'In Business' as an option on a manufacturer. We are adding an Advanced Manufacturer Search later this week hopefully, and you will be able to search a variety of ways, including if a manufacturer is in business or not.
