Hey guys, I am thinking of taking on a big project, its close to my heart so no necessarily fiscally the best idea. I want to restore my old BK2K that I sold forever ago. I can get it back for the same price I sold it for. Some IDIOT *cough* tried to remove the mylar. Something I have since found out is a horrible idea on BK2K. Anyway the inserts are mostly garbage. I want to remove them all, get new ones and then clearcoat it. Anyone know where I can find new insert lenses for it? Like I said, its going to be a labor of love, might cost more than its worth but hey. I wanna do it. Just finding those lightning shaped inserts might be a pain in the BUTT.

Thanks guys!

Well I am hoping that I can sand down the old inserts and save them.

Do you guys think I am crazy for attempting to restore this old BK2K? Its in pretty sweet shape other than the insert troubles. And I figure its better to try a big project on this first (where anything is a improvement) rather than on sometime super pricey. And honeslty I have felt pretty bad about the whole BK2K thing, i think it would feel redeeming to fix it. Plus I think a clearcoated black knight 2000 would kick ass! What do you guys think.

Yeah, I know that they would be blank. Marco Specialties has a sheet of replacement decals for them. I would need to get them and then clear coat to seal it all. I was watching a video on youtube just now about wet sanding the inserts flat. I think this would bring them back to great shape on this machine, then I could decal and seal them.

Might be cheaper/easier/faster to try and track down a good used or NOS playfield and just swap it, than it would be to re-insert your existing one.

Just to throw the idea out there.

If I could find a NOS playfield that would be epic. But I dont think there are many NOS bk2k's running around. I would expect to pay over 500 dollars for one at least. And a good used playfield would probably be about the same. Do you think that would be cheaper? Just not sure. I dont think it should cost me TO much to fix up old BK2k. Mostly just time. Clear coating would be spendy. I was thinking about calling auto body shops and seeing if anyone would do it for me.

All depends on the game and the condition for the price of a playfield. Still wouldn't hurt to look, never know what will pop up sometimes if you post a wanted ad on mr.pinball or RGP.

Good point, even if I did throw a NOS or nice playfield into this one, I could restore the original playfield at my leisure and then have 2!

Wow, she does amazing work! Seems like her strong suit is painting. Does she replace insert decals? The paint is pretty well 100 percent on my BK2K. I really think that all I need for it is to punch out (gently as possbile) the inserts, wet sand them back to smooth and then re-install, level and glue. Then I could apply decals to the tops and clearcoat. Does that sound right?

I only brought her up as an option if you cannot locate the inserts. And the nice part is that after she painted them on she could clear coat it for you. To me if this was done it would basically be a mute point to even buy another PF. Just my .02

Yeah I threw her a email. I like her work and I can see she has done insert repair before from her pictures. Overall I think the game is in good shape even considering the insert wear. I am just wanting to get it fixed up as nice as I can.

Awesome part is I work as a shipper for a small company. A perk of my job is free shipping so yeah... SWEET
