I just installed a new shaker motor and now when I play a game, there are a whole bunch of LED playfield lights that are barely on but don't light up normally during the game. I unplugged the shaker but it is still happening. The gamer plays fine but I'm missing about a dozen lights. Any ideas where I should start looking?

Crap. Apparently my son says it was doing this yesterday as well. It's pretty much all the lights on the left side of the playfield that are slightly on but won't respond to any gameplay to light up brighter or go off completely. No flickering, just partly on. I cycled through the diagnostic lighting menu and none of them light up there either. I checked connections under the playfield but didn't find any problems. No fuses out on the backbox. Damn!

sorry, i'm not pin or tech savvy enough to offer you an answer.....but if you don't mind:

how is the shaker itself? do you think it adds to the gameplay? i'm loving this pin without it....i can't imagine it actually getting better.

I like the shaker. I had one in my JP and it made the game just more exiting. That being said, I've only played two games with it because I've been trying to figure out this lighting issue.

This is no big deal and many Tron LE games have the same problem. There is a small main wiring LED harness that runs between most of the bigger LED boards under the playfield. It specifically plugs into the long board running up the center for the modes and to the board of LED's in front of the video game scoop. This wiring harness has on it three main wires colored blue, yellow, brown. If this harness is wrapped up with zip ties and looped around to the main loom under the game, cut the zip ties free and let it just hang down in the cabinet a little bit. The problem is that although the wires on this LED wiring harness are insulated they are picking up interference from the nearby main wiring harness causing it to freak out. Cut it loose and let the wires dangle.

Hope that fixes your problem. Enjoy the game, I've just spent about two hours playing mine. If I didn't have to go to work tomorrow I'd still be playing and not typing this and getting ready for bed.

I knew about the problem before I opened mine so I was already on the lookout for it. I played about a dozen games before I started noticing insert lights on when they shouldn't have been. So it wasn't doing it right out of the box. When I clipped the zip tie it instantly fixed it though.

Cowbell,

Let us know if that fixes your issue with the lights.

I've noticed that during attract mode where only certain colored lights should be on, I have some other lights kind of flickering that I think shouldn't be. Not sure if it is a software bug or an issue like you're describing.

Thanks
Tom

I tried freeing up some of the LED bundled wires from the main looms and didn't see any change. I don't want to unravel all of the looms so I think I'll wait to see if Stern has a fix. Fortunately, I can still play the game, it just chaps me that it's got an issue.

Sorry if that didn't fix your problem. There are about eight Tron:LE's in the north Texas area and one of the first guys to get his posted about the problem and the solution, I think someone on RGP told him. I got my game a few days later and with all the problems I was seeing reported here and RGP I was prepared for the worst. After playing a dozen or so games it became obvious what lights should be on or off, so that's when I could tell I was having the interference problem. All I did was snip the one zip tie and pull the wire loom loose so it could hang free.

If you have the main wires free and are still having a problem you should call Stern. Since these led boards are still new to them there could be something else causing a problem. I'm still on the fence about calling them concerning the chrome side rails and the chrome that is coming off of them. I'll give it another week or so and see how it looks.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

You should be calling Stern NOW regarding your chrome issues. You paid a premium and you should get a premium product.

Call them ASAP. Myself and a few other people I know have already called and have on order replacement chrome rails. They were missing chrome spots from the chromer. The chrome trim is on backorder "from what they told us". I need a right rail myself.

Man! You got me worried about installing my shaker motor on my pin now? Hopefully you can get yours working again and its not something major? Let us know how it all works out maybe I will wait out before I install mine.

Nothing to do with a shaker. I have one in mine and everyone I know has installed shakers without issues.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the issue was there the night before I put in the shaker. I just didn't notice it until I was trying out the game with the shaker installed.

I just got off the phone with Stern. If your having this problem and the other solution here that someone posted doesnt work, they are making a kit to send out to people. Just call and tell them your problem and they will send one out.
