Sometimes I come across Molex connector, pins, pots, etc that are loose, unmarked, etc. I may want to replace them, but am not always sure of the exact size. For example, is it a .100 or .124 pin? What's the spacing on the legs of the pot vs what the manufacturer's part # refers to?

Do I really need to invest in some calipers? Or is there something I can print out or acquire that allows me to set the part on it and know exactly what size and type of item I have so I can order more?

I could pretty easily draw up some lines at various spacings in CAD, print it full-scale (1:1) to PDF, then if you are certain to print the PDF at 1:1 (not scaled, or fit to page), it should come out to proper dimesions.

What spacings do you want??

0.100"
0.156"
0.124" (haven't seen this, but you mentioned it)
others?

That was an example off the top of my head, to illustrate how tiny differences can make a part fit or not fit, and aren't easily eyeballed.

Try the attached PDF out...

Well that looks good for spacings on a connector, but if I find a loose pin in an unmarked bag, and don't have a connector, how do I tell the size? And I had a .100 connector the other day, and needed some pins to populate it. I had two different sized pins that appeared to fit a .100 connector, but neither fit properly. They were either too long (stuck out too far and wouldn't click into place), or too thick (filled up the entire hole and wouldn't let the male pin from entering).

I was hoping for something I could look at that would allow me to properly identify a connector and the pin it needed, or the pin and what type of connector to use it with. While some are obvious to me (like the .157 trifurcon pins), I don't always recognize what type of Molex connector it is, or what type of pin it's designed for...

Ahh, now I understand the issue better.

Sounds more like you'll need full scale prints of a variety of Molex & AMP (Tyco...) terminal (pin & socket) drawings. I have a number of those in PDF already. Let me see if I can cut/paste into onto a single page...

I think Trifurcon pins are for 0.156" spacing connectors, BTW :p

I think I've seen some of those before, but they are usually outsized diagrams and show the dimensions, but that doesn't help me unless I have calipers...
