Hey guys,

Anyone know what would cause a graphics issue like this on Life Force?

There's a couple of things wrong. First, the background is supposed to be black (not blue) which also shows up on the title screen. The ship colors are wrong (it's blue with yellow highlights when it's supposed to be a grey ship with a blue highlights), and look at the CREDIT 00 letters, there some banding going on that shouldn't be there (you can also see the banding on the ship sprite).

Anyone ever seen this problem before?

Check for -5 volts.

I had a Lifeforce years ago that had weird graphics
issues. A wire came loose in the harness. I'm sure it's
a longshot but can't hurt to check.

I just repaired one that had numerous grafx problems. It was all caused failing Fujitsu logic.

I saw your repair thread, bustedstr8. How did you find out which chips were bad?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm pretty sure my cab has -5V but I'll double-check.

I started with the 3 multiplexers on the video module address lines and followed the circuit back, checking with a probe.

There is a schematic online somewhere. GL

Almost certain that LifeForce does not need -5V.

Also, kind of a stupid suggestion, but have you made sure that the ribbon cables between the two boards are properly and firmly connected?

It is JAMMA so it only needs +5V and +12V.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I've made sure the ribbon cables are nice and tight. I guess I can go through and try wiggling them to see if anything changes while it's running.
