Life before KLOV

Forum member rmackie6661 gave me an empty Rolling Thunder cabinet (see my avatar) and the rest is history. It's been nearly 20 years for me now too. Started over at BYOAC forums, then came here in 2008 when I met the Twin Cities crew at the annual MOMA auction in October.

For being kinda old now and a full-on mall/skating rink/arcade rat BITD (somehow made it to 55 today!) I'm a latecomer to this hobby.
I was a BYOAC denizen first and then made it over here to the Dark Side also.

Turns out that emulation really is just the gateway drug.

Prior to arcade machines it was all surfboards and cars, and I have since added motorcycles.

What a journey it's all been so far-
Happy Belated Birthday Bobby!

I got this asteroids pinback the other day. it was made in 1980 by the graphic artist david dees. He did the atari asteroids art for the 2600 back in 1979. he went on to doing commercial art (sesame street) , then political art, and then conspiracy stuff until his passing.

Did you mean to say he did the artwork for the arcade cabinet? Chris Kenyon did the Atari VCS Asteroids box art, and that was released in 1981.

I am sure you are correct. I saw the pin for sale and did some quick google searching about it. I dont know how it put him and atari together. cant seem to get a result now. makes it even a bit more weird..

I never heard of the name David Dees before. A quick search shows this auction page:

I'm guessing either Atari contracted Dees to make the artwork for that pin in 1980, or Dees contacted Atari about doing them. It's possible there are pins for other games that he did the artwork for.

the guy bought it from there and put it up on ebay. I found that search before I bought it and asked him about it. he lowered his $150 price.

Just went and found my first RGVAC post from November 2001 asking for help identifying what cabinet I bought at a Belleville Super Auction. Went to that auction determined to get any working game for cheap. I paid $75 for a VS Unisystem upright cabinet with a working Neo Geo 1 slot with Aero Fighters 2. I still have that Nintendo cabinet with VS RBI Baseball in it.
