Liberator Serial Number 001

Liberator.

That is pretty cool. Hand written serial number and everything. Mine is 132 after yours but in about the same shape. I am very curious as to the asking price.

Here are some pictures of the first Liberator to roll off the line. Notice the alternate marquee.

I had noticed the different marquee a while back, you can see both here:

Thanks to Scott, now we know which one came first. I've followed Liberator postings along the way and have seen a few other posts with the early marquee, so it was not one of a kind type thing. When I found the early version, it was on an op raid.

Cool find Scott!

That is pretty cool. Is the glass original? Seems like most other Liberators have the tinted glass.

I love the handwritten label. That is a sure fire tip that it was a prototype or show machine. Do the ROMS have real labels or are they handwritten also?

Very cool, but doesn't PP mean Pre-Production ? So this would be like a prototype cab ?

I think this is between a proto and a full production cab. A proto cab would have had less 'finished' artwork. The pre-production units were build up to test the 'build process' on the line. They were usually done prior to a full run, to show off the game at trade shows and distributors.

A proto cab like this would usually be in a white sided cabinet, with hand drawn marquee and overlay. The harness would have special tags on it, and possible have a hand build PCB.

Pretty awesome! There has to be some cool story as to how you acquired this game! Care to share?

No real story. It was purchased from an ex-Atari employee, along with a few other pieces. At this point- I know a lot of ex-employees and they refer their friends to me, when it's time to clean out the garage.
