Ok so some joysticks like the happ competition it's plastic on plastic. So I assume a silicon base lub would be most apropriate... any suggestions on what's the best product for that?

Second, what about metal on metal like playchoice 10? What's the best lub for this?

not sure as to best but for plastics I use lithium grease and for metal on metal household oil.

Interesting. First time I hear about lithium.

What about WD-40 for metals?

WD-40 isn't a good long term lube, its a water displacing solvent (makes old things feel better at first but it doesn't last)

After cleaning or wd-40 use a lithium or silicon grease

Edit: i like the white lithium easy to see problems and doesn't stain stuff black

For plastic on plastic use Super Lube Synthetic Grease (barcode 082353210305).

For metal on metal use black moly graphite grease.

Both are available at any auto parts store.

You never want to use WD-40.

Ok i see. Thanks for your input! Now after some more research, i've found that silicon is good for metals also. So should silicon grease be used for plastic on metal like the old nintendo pushbuttons?

I use white lithium grease on almost everything.. It's what Atari and Monroe joys came with.. Also I use 2 in one oil on my trackballs. That's about all you need!

You could, I guess, but since there's a variety of substances, there should be a variety of lubs chemicaly compatible.
