Let's Talk About TMNT

Can anyone take some pictures of what the extra harness looks like? I found some for sale but for $15 each, I think I can probably make my own. Unless someone has some they'd like to sell for cheaper :p

I could shoot some shots when I get home tonight. Yeah, it seems like an easy wiring harness to make if you have the right connectors. Though, I've never had to make one myself so I'm not sure how easy it is to find the parts. I'm guessing Bob Roberts (www.therealbobroberts.net)?

Aha! Bob saves the day again. His are listed as $20 though. I wonder if that's each or for both 3p and 4p. I'll email and ask.

This was easily the hottest game in my area...just before SF2 arrived and blew our middle school minds. Then the thing wound up sitting alone and unloved.

As a kid, I told myself I'd buy this game and own it as an adult. For some reason I've never really seeked it out though. Guess I owe my younger self an explanation.

I wired my Jamma cab up years ago so I could swap all kinds of boards in it. Took some special kick harnesses and controls that unplug, but I can play TMNT, NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat, etc. all in one cabinet with a quick board and harness swap.

Here's how I did it:

That's insane Jeff! Very cool though. Man, I wish I had the time and skills. Learn by doing I guess. :)

I liked it as a kid, but at heart it's just a button mashing, quarter sucker. I wouldn't want a dedicated one, it would get old FAST.
thats the way i feel. i have it on my mame cab and it gets played maybe once a year, and then for 10-15 minutes at most. its the same thing over and over. it was fun as a kid with a couple quarters but with a free credit button its pointless.

Some of my best memories of TMNT were playing it at the nearby Showbiz Pizza over in Flint (it was converted to a Chuck E Cheese during Showbiz's decision to go with the CEC concept *shudder). Having 3 other random TMNT fans play too was a lot of fun. I own the 2 player UK version pcb and play it sometimes in my Double Dragon cab. Even though I already own a dedicated Simpsons I'd still get a dedicated TMNT if the chance came up. Good luck with your restore! Hopefully you can save the side art. :)

thi was one of my top 5 games and I HAD a working one..took it apart and about 6 months ago to "clean it" and bring down stairs..go to plug the board in..somehow it fried itself sitting on a shelf (dont work in tmnt cab or any jamma just black and pulsing bass)...cant bring myself to pony up the $$ for a working board :( maybe i will find a working one at a auction

Oh hey, what are you doing under all this vinyl?

That's about the extent of the good news though. It only has sideart on one side, and even the side it does have isn't super. :(

Reproductions, here I come!

Edit: Has anyone used the Game on Graffix reproductions? How are they?

Edit 2: Bob's $20 price is for both 3p and 4p harnesses together. Score!

I never pass up a chance for a shameless plug on my Simpsons cab, so here it is restored using Game on Grafix art. I was very happy with it overall, but I did have to cut the top section with the Simpsons logo to make it all fit properly on the cabinet. I had him print out a scan I found online that I think looked better than what they had (at least at the time...said he was going to use the scan I provided as the new default). I didn't see TMNT side art listed on the website, but maybe a scan exists somewhere. Good luck!

They definitely have it:

Edit: How many feet of t-molding did you need? I feel like 20 feet probably isn't enough with the CP using it too.
That's what I get for just searching for "turtles" on the site. Figures that would be the one word they left off the title for the side art. Anyway, just from eyeballing it, I'd say that looks pretty damn close as far as alignment is concerned. I think with The Simpsons the fact that it's a lot of empty blue space in the art made it easier to have it mis-aligned, but with TMNT it's all one large unbroken graphic with all the buildings.

I ordered 40 ft of t-molding just to be safe, but it was very close to being enough with just 20 ft. I don't think TMNT uses that piece that goes above the marquee so that would save a bit too.

If anyone orders the TMNT sideart from Game On Grafix, let me know how it looks, I'm trying to restore my Sunset Riders cabinet back to TMNT, and when I get the money, that's probably where I'm going to go for the marquee, side art, and CPO

chiming in a little late on this one. tmnt's a fun game. i've been thinking about getting one for my jamma cab. i have the nes version, which is fun to play, however i do want the better graphics and sound (mainly speech) that the arcade version has over the nes version.

Anyone know what kind of lamps the coin doors on konami cabinets use? I know it's a 6v wedge, do I need to know anything else?

So how about that Krang? What a dick, am I right?
Yeah he's a total pain in the ass to defeat. The strategy I use is basically stick to jump kicks and keep away from him if you can.

Funny TMNT arcade story....back when I only had JAMMA boards I was playing through TMNT on my only JAMMA cabinet. My buddy was also playing and we were near the end of the game just before you fight Krang and Shredder. I don't think my buddy had played that far on the game before or he didn't remember what happens, but he walked right up to the closed door the rock soldier comes out of. For whatever reason my buddy was talking to the game and said "Open up!" No sooner than he said that the door flies open and sends him to his death on the other side of the screen. :D To this day he and I can still laugh about that story.

I love this game! It was one of those games that I poured lots of quarters into. While it is more fun playing it with friends,I still enjoy playing it.
To me the only downside is that the cab takes up a lot of space, but I'd still love to get this game.

For beating Krang, jump kicks are the way to go.I try to kick him in the antenna on top of his head.It seems I can dodge his retaliations more often than not by hitting him there.
