Who doesn't like TMNT?

I spent a lot of money on this game when I was little. How many of you have one? Let's see some pictures! Come in and talk to me about turtles!

I am purposefully building a mame cabinet aircraft carrier so I can play this... until I get a dedicated cab.

I just picked up a cabinet this weekend. It was converted to a golden tee, so I've got plenty of work ahead... Totally worth it though, cowabunga!

I spent ton of quarters on this game as well as the simpsons game. I remember beating both turtles games in the arcade after spending probably $10 in quarters. Seems like there wasn't a lot of skill involved (at least not to my knowledge), because you couldn't avoid getting hit. Is it possible to beat the game on one quarter. By the time this came out, was it 50 cents a play?

I have a fonder memory of this game than any other arcade game, however it's one I don't want to own. It doesn't seem like it has a whole lot of replay value, and the cabinet would take up too much real estate in my game room.

I enjoyed the show and the game BITD. Unfortunately the game falls in to the category that many others from its era do where it's just not a lot of fun without friends to play with. Add to this the fact that it's a game with an end and it just lacks replay value. If I had all the space in the world I'd have one but it's just not a game I can justify making space for.

That's one of the great things about the cabinet though. It's big, but you can swap out a crap load of awesome games. Simpsons, Sunset Riders, Turtles in Time...

Turtles in Time definitely had a skill element. Say you had two enemies on either side, hit one to stun them then hit the other. Go back and forth. Also hitting the bosses while moving down (some of them like Bebop and Rocksteady) you could hit without getting hit yourself.

I only have the first TMNT, PCB only, but I love the series. I played those games a lot BITD. I still want a Turtles in Time. I have it for the SNES which is close but not exactly like the arcade release.

My plan is to have both TMNT and Turtles in Time be switchable and in my cabinet at the same time. Although, maybe I should just go all the way and get a multi jamma board and have those two plus Sunset Riders and Simpsons. Decisions...

You might as well start with Xmen and then be able to switch with all of the others since it's the only 3 button version. It kills me that I have a TMNT and refuse to drill for another hole.

Love the game although it's really full of too many cheap hits. In that sense I prefer Golden Axe as a 4 player beater.

I never was a big fan of x-men, so I'm fine with only having two buttons. I can run through it in mame once every few years and not miss it.

Yes, great game. I remember dropping a lot of quarters into it as a kid. I currently swap it out of my X-Men cab. Though, like most 4P Konami games, it has little replay value and fun factor unless you play with friends. I hope to pick up a Turtles in Time board some day as it's a much better game, but they are apparently very pricey and scarce.

Great game for the time. Playing with friends was the best, unless you got stuck with Raph. Don or Leo was the way to go as they had the reach with their long weapons.

"They ain't getting any prettier!"

...

"Watch your mouth, slime ball!"

This was towards the end of my arcade days, but I do remember playing it quite a bit.

The one problem I have with this type of game for the home arcade is the unlimited continue that costs nothing. If you're putting your hard earned quarters in to continue, these games are awesome. If you're just pushing a free play button, games like TMNT, X-Men, Gauntlet and others lose their appeal to me.

That being said, my kids (6 and 4) play these types of games A LOT on my MAME machine.

Any owners out there have pictures of the wiring harness? Does it use a kick harness?

No kick harness. Just a standard JAMMA harness. There's only 2 buttons needed for TMNT (and a lot of other games not including X-Men). Though it uses an extra harness for the 3P and 4P controls. That is, if you have a 4P board.

Kick or Aux harness... same thing.

2 and 4P boards are the same so both will have the molex for the 3rd and 4th players.

you can find a jamma harness text doc that gives all of the wire mappings for all of these JAMMA+ games.

PM me you email and I can send it to you.

Ah, ok. I knew there had to be some extra wiring someplace. Can I buy the extra harness somewhere, or is it easy to build?

Thanks for clarifying, I got my terms mixed up. I read "kick harness" and think buttons 4-6 for street fighter (hence, "kick"). But yes, technically, they are both auxiliary.

Though, not all JAMMA+ use the same kick/aux harness connectors. For instance, I can't plug my Wrestlefest directly into my X-Men cab for all 4 players. It only connects 1 and 2 Player and uses a different edge connector for the 3 and 4 Player inputs than the ones on the standard Konami aux harness.

I know the 2P and 4P boards are the same, but I've heard that you need a different chip installed in order to get the 4P mode. It's not just an option that you can choose in the test menu.

Can anyone take some pictures of what the extra harness looks like? I found some for sale but for $15 each, I think I can probably make my own. Unless someone has some they'd like to sell for cheaper :p
