I just made a deal for a pile of Sega boards, and now I'm trying to decide on a cabinet to put them in. I checked the klov database to get some ideas, but it's not very helpful (shows Golden Axe in a Space Invaders and Shinobi in a Z-Clone).

Am I wrong in assuming these games had dedicated cabinets, or were they kits? And in either case, would you guys mind posting some pictures of yours?

Hmm, well that makes more sense then. What are you guys' favorites? It looks like I'm getting Golden Axe, Shinobi, Altered Beast, and Aurail.

Yeah, they were conversion kits.

I used a zaccaria generic cab for my Golden Axe. Came up pretty nice.

Just go with a cab style you like.

I have a Wrestle War conversion that use to be a Q Bert cab it looks like. I still gotta get it going, but the board suicided, so I have no audio. Are these an easy fix?

Agreed! That Golden Axe looks really nice and almost "dedicated". So many SEGA conversions look like trash because the ops just want it to work and make $. Of all those SEGA boards mentioned, my favorite is Altered Beast. The others are just "ok" IMHO.

Wow, that Golden Axe does look pretty good. I guess I just need to decide which game I think has the best art and go from there. I noticed Bob doesn't sell system 16 harnesses though, are they pretty easy to come by?

You can get Sega System 16 to JAMMA adapters for like 40ish bucks if you wanted to go that route. Ive seen alot of boards come with them if you buy on ebay, klov, ect....

Yep, I sold 3 Sega 16 games w/ the Jamma adapters (MVP, Aurail, and... something I can't remember.. maybe A-JAX?) and they went for 30-60 bucks.

I hadn't even thought of an adapter until Prairied1ll0 suggested it to me. That definitely opens a lot of doors as far as cabinet choice goes. Just need to keep my eyes out for a random 2 player jamma cabinet now. PM sent ZFCamaro!

The best cab I can think of just for pure aesthetics is a dedicated choplifter cab.

Its good for the single player games like Shinobi. As for the doubles, it would be a good cab to pick up an extra CP, and jammatize that badboy for 2 controllers where you could swap out the single CP or the double. Its only 19", but it looks awesome. Of course, you can't go wrong with a generic Dynamo HS-5 cab with a 25" monitor in the botton configuration of your choice. With the jamma converter by sega for the system 16, you would be set. And with the easy front slide out tray, it would be pretty simple to convert the games. And some NOS golden axe art, you would be pretty set. Only real drawback is your marquee art wouldn't be wide enough.

Hmm, looks like an HS-5 would be out then. I feel like all of these games would feel more natural on a 19" monitor anyway.

I think a sega 16 kit in an early Dynamo HS1 is about right.
