Lets play some PAPERBOY

Sorry I can't share your enthusiasm Jow, my machine is restored and I don't wanna tarnish my fresh nickel plated handlebars with fingerprints and burning up my perfect tube isn't an option either.

What a sad, lonely life. Restore an amusement device to better than original condition, then get no amusement out of it. Kinda makes you wonder what other deviant behavior you're still capable of.

Crazy right? I'd love to have that Paperboy. At least then it would get played.

In honor of the epic weather we are having, opening day, and the overall awesomeness that is Paperboy, I will be firing my machine back up tonight and going after 154K.

Who else is in?

I love Paperboy. I just put a new power supply in mine. Working great. FUN FUN FUN GAME!

Mine came with a switcher in it, so it has run great for the past 4 years. Im sure I just jinxed it though, ha.

uhh, i've made it through the whole week on the nes. gets easier with less customers...

i digress. the nearest UR paperboy is around 45 minutes away from me...

I still haven't been to the 1UP arcade downtown yet. I thought I read that Jon said there was a Paperboy there. (Of course, maybe Lyons Pinball and 1UP are equidistant from you?) It really is ridiculous that I haven't gone yet. EDIT: Oh, this thread is before 1UP opened.

Regardless, Paperboy is getting my balls on its chin* when we go to Lyons tomorrow.

*Not literally

I'm almost halfway to the record. I'm finally able to consistently make it through the week, now I'm looking to pile on the points. So progress-wise, I'm a few years behind your skill level. In fairness, I only recently fixed my drifting handlebars with a new steering gear from RAM Controls. Heh, I got lucky there.

Mine has a switcher for the top board and the AR-II for the bottom board. SO, yeah...

I completely rewired my CP (with Dokert's help) this past weekend, but still need to swap out the pots on the controller.

I have them somewhere around the house, but can't find the parts!

Im having issues with my controller for the first time ever :(

Test mode is fine, and the controls are perfect. Start up a game, and the Paperboy drifts to the right. Its bumming me out cause it makes no sense.

maybe the set screw for your steering pot came loose? At least your sound works,I could get over that drifting very easily lol

That's what fixed mine. I used to have to tilt the wheel to the left to keep him out of the road. I got a new small gear that fits at the bottom of the steering assembly and it works much better now.

One of the main reasons I ended up selling mine. I figured your luck would run out some day.

Wow, so positive you are

Mine is weird because it tests out fine? In test mode there are no issues?

I could calibrate mine to say "OK", but during a game the drifting would get progressively worse. I'd go back to the calibration screen, one would say "OK" and the other "BAD". Recalibrate to get them to say "OK", but once in the game it would drift again. The small gear wasn't fitting tightly. I bought a new one and now it stays properly calibrated.

This must be at least somewhat common, since I remember playing two Paperboys BIID which did the exact same thing...

Anyone wanna help me with my "No sound" issue so that I may enjoy my Paperboy like everyone else here? Pretty please?? I have audible hiss like the volume is turned up all the way on the speaker but still no sound. And how the hell do you get to the ROM/RAM test menu?
