Let's Discuss Rastan

I don't remember playing Rastan BITD (played alot of Black Tiger though, our local mall arcade had it). The local classic arcade got a Rastan not too long ago (which is next to his Black Tiger :D ), I tried it a few times, but didn't really care for it. One nitpick is how the score doesn't reset when you continue the game, so seeing a high score on the game doesn't really mean anything, other than they had alot of money ;)

I understand your complaint, to be honest I played Rastan back in the day way more than Black Tiger, I only got to play BT on vacation. There was a Rastan in the next town over.

I used to go to the local video store in High School during study hall (small school that let juniors and seniors leave the property during study hall) and play Gladiator. That was fun too. There was also a vs Castlevania and Crystal Castles.

Our school let us leave to. I had about 90 min for lunch my senior year. Walked about 8-10 blocks to Arnold's and played ALOT of Rastan, even some Moon Patrol...

Rastan was one of my very favorites BITD. I could finish it consistently on one credit. I had a job at a movie theater so after school I had about three hours and not a lot of money. That game was the perfect way to spend an hour and only cost me 25 cents.

Of course, that was a couple decades ago so the last time I played I only got to the 4th level on one credit.

Tricks that I remember off the top of my head:

Do a quick duck when you kill opponents. Many enemies attack high and a quick duck will put you under their attack.

Never skip a weapon power-up. Even if you have the flame sword, it's better to have any weapon other than the vanilla sword.

Kill the bats, they do not go away.

Keep moving, or you will get more bats.

You can push up to do an extra high jump. This is really useful on the slides.

On the vertical ropes, you can jump up most of them on one side, and jump down on them on the other side.

The poison takes very little health, but gives a lot of points.

When you jump on a vertical rope, your weapon point goes up and will do damage without having to swing it.

If you turn while swinging your weapon, you can attack in front of and behind you in one swing.

I'm sure there's tons more, but like I said, it's been a while.

Had this pcb in the collection for a few years but finally put it in a jamma cabinet tonight and played for at least a hour straight with, as of yesterday, my 23 year old son. Damn, both the game and I are old. It was his first time ever playing the game and probably my first extensive playing in 30+. We got to the 2nd level and had no idea wtf we were doing. I don't remember getting past the first gargoyle flying thing in the arcade. He was commenting on poor hit detection and stuff, damn new gamers, but also figured out you could hang on rope and your back swing will swing up to kill those hovering above you. I never knew that.

We were playing with an 8 way micro switch joystick (SF2 cab) but this probably needs an 8 way wico to feel right. Also, not sure on high score saves but there are scores on the board including ours at #5.

Good night, good game and good thread that deserved a bump.

Curious what game it was prior? I put a Rastan in my Karnov cabinet, which is JAMMA and could never make it work.

It was originally a SF2 CE but came to me as a Tekken 3 conversion. I haven't looked up pinout of Rastan but my harness has all three voltages.
Rastan has great hit detection, it's just that you have to strike first.
I will tell him that. :)

Stand by alert
Necro Bump approaching

Yeah Rastan kicks ass. A cabinet cannot be called an "arcade" unless it has been converted to a Rastan at least once. Preferably three times during its life
