Let's discuss games who disappeared from mainsteam circulation.

As time goes by, more and more titles are becoming harder to find. Let's make a list of those games who are hard, or maybe even impossible to find; and why. Heck, it seems that its easier to find them on bootlegs multiboards! :(

Killer Instinct

Was this game a victim of being the first game to feature a hdd hard drive? It seems that many of them were simply converted into KI2 when it came out Were operators simply trashing them back in the days once the hard drive died? It is a mystery -- today a working board set can fetch 300$! People are seemingly resorting to converted back KI2 boards into KI sets these days!

The Punisher
A minor hit for the cps-2 Platform, but still a very enjoyable game. I havent seen a working set on ebay for a long time, perhaps it became a unfortunate victim of the suicide batteries on those type of boards. Today the technology is here and revival is rather trivial, but I assume that gamers were more interested in saving Marvel VS Capcom than this title.

Jousts seem to have been converted to Bubble Bobbles by the droves. I've picked up 5 in the last couple of years.

I converted a lot of KI1's we had to Blitz when that kit came out. The cab was perfect for the two player kit with control panel and the KI's were all dead in the water because they werent making any money at the time and the drives were over $1000.00 when you had to replace them.

We only had a few Punishers which all ended up getting converted to some sort of Street Fighter. I agree that its a good game FWIW...

So true. And 75% of them wound up as Rastan, #1 on the JAMMA junk charts.

Now, now boys...

Keep in mind that Robotron WAS junk in the late 80's and early 90's... These games and their ilk were converted to restore life to the cabinets and the operators checking accounts. Games like Rastan, Toki and SFII all made HUGE amounts of money at the time. Any OP that had spare wood sitting around and $1200-$1800 for a kit could get that investment back in a few weeks (some in a week) and from that point forward it was all gravy. I worked for an OP that had about 100 SFII's (all in new 3KOAM cabs) that averaged $800.00 per week PER machine for about 3 years. Tell me that none of you would jump on that sort of opportunity???

I know you guys all love classics and dont want to see harm come to them but ask yourself this question, where do you think those classics that ended up getting converted would be if they didnt get donated to the world of conversions. I'll tell ya where, the dumps! Trust me, I know this first hand.

So sad about KI going away. My favorite fighting game of all time, and I don't think that KI2 did much to improve upon it.
I'm not sure what other classics dissapeared but I know what they became... SFII and Arkanoid.

I agree. There many, many ways of looking at a situation.

The Punisher was part of the short loved CPS 1.5 boardset group. Most of those games were very good but few have survived. I have been looking for a Punisher boardset myself...

Hard to find games would be most of what's in my signature below.

What's with the Rastan hate? I've been looking for this for a long time and have never come across one that I could realistically get home.

The Punisher rocks! Mudmantim hooked me up with the pcb he had just sitting on his shelf. Since then I've been able to revive it for the most part, but I still need to order one last set of roms so my rom revision codes all match. Right now it will crash if I play it but at least I know both suicide fixes were a success. :)
