I am new to this hobby and this is my first project. I have a Lethal Enforcers and everything is working fine now except the sound. It is distorted and muffled. I have tried this board in two different JAMMA cabs and I see the same issue. Can anyone please help me on this one? Thanks.

Hi. Welcome to KLOV and congrats on your purchase. Lethal Enforcers is one those games I loved to play in the arcade. Anyway, unfortunately your sound issue might be a bit of a pain to deal with. Basically if you look at the game pcb you'll see a large, black chip with the Konami logo in it located near the upper right corner. That's a custom sound chip and unfortunately there are capacitors on it that tend to leak and cause sound issues. It's a problem that's also very common with Konami's X-Men and probably a few other Konami games from that era that used it. Your best bet would probably be to find another board or see if someone is willing to try to replace the capacitors for you, unless you felt confident enough to try it. I've been working on doing that for a few X-Men boards and it's been a battle. Now it's possible that's not your problem, but that's where I'd put my money. Take a look at that chip and see if notice any corrosion or it looks like it has fluid leaked on it.

Thanks for the welcome SuperGunGuru. I did some searching as well and found the post about the leaking caps on the sound chip. That looks like it might be difficult (I have never done that before). I will keep an eye out in the KLOV forums for a LE board or see if I can find someone in Florida who replaces the caps on the Konami boards.

Buying a working pcb will only delay the inevitable. I have bought 5 working pcbs since I got my cabinet and only one of them still has working sound.

If anyone ever repro'd these custom chips they could make some coin for real.

I totally agree with you on that. I have 4 X-Men boards, 2 of them have lost sound and 2 of them still have sound but have shown signs of leaking caps. At least with the working 2 I have been able to contain the electrolyte so hopefully just changing the caps is all they need.

I've also asked before if anyone is interested in at least documenting this chip to see what options are out there. So far nobody has responded. The chip used on Lethal Enforcers is somewhat different from X-Men as well.
