Got a problem with my LE. One of the guns dont register. When you pull the trigger, you hear it go off, and you see the shots get used up, but nothing register on the screen. The screen does flash though. This is only for player 2 gun. It also doesnt register when you fire off screen to reload. When I go onto the test screen, it doesnt work either.

I tried swapping the gun connections on the board. When I do that, they both have the same issue. But when I put them back to the way they were, player 1 works but player 2 still has the issue.

I played around with the brightness of the game and made sure the connections looked good in the gun itself. But the issue is still there.

What else should I look for? Never had to troubleshoot a gun issue before.

If you swapped the guns and had both guns messed up, then you may have two issues - a problem with Gun 2 and a problem with the board or wiring for Gun 2. If it was only Gun 2, then Gun 1 should have worked on the Gun 2 side.

You may want to take Gun 2 apart and make sure that the optic inside doesn't have cold solder (common), is good, and that the lens is there and clean.

As for Gun 1 not working on the Gun 2 side:

1) Make sure the tube, mirror, and bezel are clean.

2) Make sure the brightness of the monitor is high enough to be registered by the guns.

3) Make sure there isn't too much light around the game that might interfere with the guns.

4) Check the +5 voltage to both guns to see if there is a difference between the working gun and the non working gun.

It's strange that you would see the shots being used up and it not reloading, as a typical non-registering gun would reload constantly and not shoot. This might mean that it thinks it is aiming at the screen (light source) all the time, making me thing that you may have a problem with #3 above, or possibly a missing lens...

I will play around with it some more tonight. I played it without any other lights on in the room as well in case it was outside light affecting it. I did open up the gun and see the lens so I know that is there.

Where should I check the voltage? Is it on the jamma board, or on the guns themselves?

I will check and clean the tube and bezel if needed. This LE doesnt have a mirror. You are shooting directly at the monitor.

Mine did the same thing I cleaned the tube and the mirror also adjusted the brightness.Worked great after I was done.

I am wondering if it could be something wired differently with each gun. When I use the one gun in test mode, it works fine, but the problem gun says reload each time. The good working gun never says reload even when pointing it off the screen. I did see they each have a different optic board in each one, but by Happs though.

Edit: I take that back. I tried just using the good gun on the 2nd player connection where the bad gun goes, and it says reload the whole time to.

Ok, played around with it some more tonight. Tested where the guns connect to the jamma board. They are getting +5.09 each, so they seem to be getting enough juice since one gun works. with it. I also tried all of the following: cleaning the lens on the gun, took off the glass and bezel off the game, cleaned the monitor, made adjustments to brightness, played the game with no other lights on.

I even took the bad gun and jamma board and threw them in another jamma cabinet. Had the same issue there.

So it seems like neither gun will work for player 2. And if I take the player 2 gun and put it in player 1, it wont work. So only the one working gun will work for the player 1 only.

Any ideas?

Are they both the same style gun? Tried swapping the optic board between the two guns to see if the problem is with the optic board or the wiring from the game PCB to the optic board? Checked the bad gun optic board for cold solder?

I tried swapping the optic from the good working gun in the bad gun and it still didnt work. They are the same style gun, but look like they have slightly different optic boards in them, both from Happs.

I am starting to wonder if it is a problem with the jamma board.
