Ive finaly bought my first arcade game, a Lethal Enforcer!
Been wanting one for a while but here in norway they are rarely available and the few available tend to start at 700-800$ even for a not working.
So when i found this one at about 300$ i took it in a heartbeat!

The cabinet itself looks good overall, a few rust spots that need some attention, missing some decor on control panel and a minor dent in the side.

But im having some issues with the guns, in the middle of the screen their pretty accurate and working fine.
But on the sides of the monitor its impossible to hit anything, the screen flashes and bullets are used but no hit.

Got the same issues both on main game and the extra pcb i got with machine (police trainer).
In test mode the rom check shows ok on all (picture is messy with vertical lines during memory but can read the countdown and text ok).
In gun test i can shoot the boxes in the middle but sides are just like in the games nogo.
Did screen test and all the single color "slides" are nice and even color on, but on the main slide with color adjusting it looks a bit off (picture).
Basicly the lines of color shades dosent go all the way upto the not visable markers, but dosent seem to be any way of adjusting it from menu.
(i know its a horrible picture, will try to find a better camera and get a clear one of color screen)

Assuming its not a pcb issue since i got 2 pcb's and both are playable with the exeption of not hitting anything on the sides.
Im thinking(and hoping) that its a matter of calibrating the monitor, but im not realy sure how to do so.

Any help and hopefully a solution would be appreciated :)

Darren pretty much summed up the gun stuff very well.......since the guns are functioning, it's usually a matter of cleaning everything (guns, glass, mirror, monitor face) and adjusting the monitor (brightness/contrast, colors).

Colors would be adjusted on the neckboard of the monitor itself.
Brightness/contrast, etc. will also be adjusted on the monitor itself.
So get familiar with your monitor.

I have had "edge" issues with gun games due to the picture being too large. Adjust your horizontal width and vertical size to see if that helps.

You may want to put this in the monitor section as it is most likely the issue.

Light output falls off and focus on edges especially in these cab's as the monitor is mounted flat and the cathodes tend to get contaminated and lose light output. This is what I have found. I recapped my monitor in my LE cabinet and still had problems. I then took apart the guns and cleaned the lenses and also the cab glass itself and monitor crt face and mirror. Guns work good now but occasionally still have a shot or 2 miss on edges.

Check the monitor for weak output. Remember, if the tube is weak do not just crank the contrast up it could cause damage to the monitor chassis or a already weak tube that may need a rejuvenation. Basically if it is working in the center the board is good and probably no issue with the optical sensor in the guns themselves.

After adjusting the monitor to about max brightness i can see some faint darkspots along both sides of the monitor that match pretty well with the spots it dosent register shots.

Its fully playable aslong as playing police trainer in single player, so i get all the rounds in the middle of the screen (played 30ish min without issues).

Degaussing should fix those spots if im not mistaken, found some simple ones on ebay such as This one.

IF the problem is that the monitor needs degaussing, you might want to hold of a week or so.

Monitors have built-in degaussing coils. They are fairly weak, and activate only for a very brief period of time every time the monitor is turned on FROM BEING COLD. And monitors frequently develop the need to be degaussed after being moved... and you likely just moved yours. It may take several cycles from the built-in coil before it "clears up" the residual magnatism.

Rather that pay 30 or 40 bucks for a manual coil... Turn it on once or twice a day from being cold, every day for a week. This happened with my LE monitor (except I do have a degaussing coil, I was just too lazy to go get it take off the bezel etc to get proper access to the monitor...) Turned out to be one of those rare problems that "fixes itself" when laziness is applied to it :)

I got this on friday after a 25mile run on the back of a trailer so its been shaken a bit, been used about 30-45min a day since that.

I got time to wait intil next weekend or so to see if the problem solves itself.

Had the machine standing on 1-2hours a day evry day that ive remembered to do so and aiming seems to have improved.

Ordered a daugeusing gadget (stick shaped not coil) that wasent too bad, about 14$ shipped.
Hopefully that will fix it and i can start on the cosmetic part.
