so i have read a little about a big problem in a 720 where the LETA chips go bad.
i have a few questions.
where is the LETA chip located?
what causes it to go bad?
is there something programmed on the chip specific to the game? or is it as easy to swap out with a working one from any game?
what does a 720 with a bad LETA chip do when you power it up?

thanks for any info

My 720 board was flat out missing one and I paid $50 just for the chip alone. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about what it exactly does, but seems to be missing from a lot of boards. If you look in a 720 manual, you'll see it labeled on the pcb diagram.

Ahh yes... the LETA chip. I am currently having issues with mine right now as well.

This it what it looks like...

And depending on which system you have (1 or 2) the chip # will either be...
System 1 - 137304-1001
System 2 - 137304-2002 (this is the one in pic)

This is a picture of where it is located on your board. It is on the upper board on the "7th" row. 3rd chip in from the right. The picture only shows the 3 chips from the right hand edge of the 7th row...

"What causes it to go bad"...
I don't know a whole lot but I hear that if the +5 V DC is too high (5.5 ish or higher) it will ruin it.

It is pretty easy to swap out the bad one for a good one. Here is a list of the games that have the system 2 LETA chip in it...

Paperboy
720 Degrees
Championship Sprint
Super Sprint
A.P.B.
Toobin'
Mighty Mouse

Here is a list of games that have the System 1 chip in it...

Missile Command 2
Marble Madness
Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom
Peter Pack Rat
Road Runner
Road Blasters

Do a "Search" for "LETA" on this forum and a bunch of threads will come up.
Good luck finding one of these... I know a bunch of people are looking for one. I have one coming in the mail right now $35.00. And am looking for a spare just to have on hand.

Hope that was some help :)
