Let’s save a Mad Planets

Bloaty edges all gone now after leaving the wood hardener for a good week or so. Next I'll have to mask off all the blue and red so I can do a full black blow over of the whole cab.

Lock bar and power switch holes deleted now looking much cleaner.

I treated all the exposed wood edges with clear lacquer and left that for a week. Today I used a fine foam mini roller with a semi gloss enamel to get some uniformity to the base. It's good and sticky so it will gel together the old painted surface and the treated exposed edges.

I'll let this sit another week now before gently knocking back the enamel and then moving on to top coats of semi-gloss rattle can

I hope the frog tape works out.
I had issues with the tape pulling up the original paint underneath.

letting the paint harden and out gas prevents odd bubbling and helps the over coat from laying down flat..

2-3 coats of rattle can satin black. So hard to get such a large area even with spray tins. Will see how it settles and if need be hit it with clear coat later. Not trying for perfection here just an honest looking tidy cabinet.

Certainly a big improvement from where we started. There's some paint damage on the red and blue from it's adventures over the years, hopefully I can retouch it a little.

Really nice work there and it's orders of magnitude better than when you started.
Thanks. It's a lot better yes but I couldn't get the black totally even. I'll let it cure for a while then hit it with 1500, might need to put a clear coat over it.
