I was playing Missile Command last night and realized that because they have the aiming trackball on the right and the fire buttons on the left, that right handed people have a significant advantage over the lefties. I can't really bring myself to hack up such a beautiful game just so that I can reverse the setup, but it did make me wonder if there were any left handed games that were out there.

I know my Bad Dudes arcade for example, has the buttons on both side of the controls, so it works for lefties or righties. Does anyone else know of any other arcades where righties don't get home field advantage?

Slither was marketed as being for lefties as well as righties, since MC, Millipede and Centipede are all right handed only. The trackball was in the center of the CP. Quantum and most other trackball games could go either way..

is the cp removable on mc? if so buy another one and chop it and switch it. get somebody to make you a reverse cpo, tada.

freak people out when they come to play. Call it the european vrsion lol

Dig Dug and Ikari Warriors were also ambidextrious; duplicate buttons on both sides of the sticks.

Turbo (Sega, 1981) kinda had an advantage for lefties... or maybe Brits... as it had the shifter on the left side.

Be aware before you do any conversions that left handed trackball games basically become completely unplayable to right handed people.

Lefties are used to a right handed world and thus tend to be MUCH better with their off hand than right handed people are. My left handed wife uses the mouse in her right hand just because mice always seem to be on the right at every computer she goes to. I basically can't even operate a mouse left handed at all.

Oh man, I used to have an old motor home with the shifter on the left and in the two years I owned it I never got used to it.

Most of the Data East rotary games (Ikari Warriors, Heavy Barrel, etc.) were set up with buttons on both sides of the joystick.

Mappy, Pac-&-Pal, Baby Pac-Man and Super Pac-Man to name a few.
Pac/Ms. Pac/Jr. Pac just have a joystick, so that counts.

I could definitely fabricate a new one and the thought of telling people that I had to switch it because I'm using a Japanese or European board would be a funny joke, even if it's politically incorrect, but my MC has only had one previous owner and was never in an arcade. It's in too nice of a condition to make unplayable for the righties. Moving the throttle on my project Chase HQ arcade with the plywood control panel on the other hand is an interesting modification . . . . Anyone know how to flip the game around so that you have to drive on the wrong side of the road ;)

Super Zaxxon is also ambidextrous... A fire button on both sides of the stick. Now that I've gotten kinda good at the game since owning it, I like to change it up occasionally and play left-handed, just for the challenge!

Check out my candy cab CP:

....I'm ambidextrous, my wife is a leftie, and this really screws with other people.

I don't know if it qualifies, but I do better with spinners and trackball controls in my left hand and the fire button in my right hand. It messes with people watching me play Tempest with my arms crossed over (spinner left, fire button right) same with Centipede.
