I am working on my Jurassic Park and need to make a decision on lighting before I get much further in the assembly. The previous owner installed cointaker frosted led's under the inserts and They look good. I have brights in my Roller Coaster Tycoon and they are a tad bright.

The real question is GI. My RCT is all led which is a bit too much. I can't decide whether to run standard bulbs, cool white frosted or warm frosted.

How do you led? None, inserts only, GI only or all out......... The more input the better and pics if you have them. - Thanks - Barry

I strongly recommend colored bulbs for GI--coordinate with the adjacent pf/plastics colors. This will add a lot of pop to the game without the drawbacks of LEDs. $2 for a box of 10 from pinball life is the cheapest I've seen them...

Just picked up a t2 pin and is has all leDs and I love it it look sweet, but I also think not all pins can pull it off.

Some look good with LEDs, like CFTBL. Some are painfully horrible, like SM or Road Show (LEDs made these basically painful to play) Never saw a pin that looked bad with colored bulbs.

I strongly recommend against that. The playfield and plastics are already full of color and detail. Using a colored bulbs all over the place monochromes out the colors that are there, or just makes your game look like a gaudy rainbow mess. They make the playfield darker, as well. Only use colored bulbs sparingly, if at all.

JP is full of warm and natural colors....reds, yellows, greens. If you must do LEDs, go for warm white. I still haven't found an LED that when used in GI offers the spread of an incandescent. You get a brighter up-shot of light...but GI is supposed to spread outwards, not just upwards. I have no choice anymore w/ the Stern LE's - they are all LED now. However, I don't think the spread issue affects them as much due to Sterns having spotlights all over the place to give the playfield more light.

yes there are some that just do not work. I was at a arcade expo and there was a f 14 tom cat that was led up to the max and no one could play the pin it was way to bright. Do not know what that guy who had that was thinking.
