I'm sure this has been covered but I could not find it.

It seems to me that the microswitch allows faster firing.

So I am taking a poll.

Which do you prefer and why?

Oh boy.

I think leafs suit better for the older 70s-80s games and microswitches for all the newer
Also I heard leafs need often maintenance to work good

I actually disagree with your assessment on faster firing based on my experience playing Defender with both types of switches. The leaf buttons have a lighter stroke, making it easier to "flutter" the fire button like you need to for Defender.

Its a non-issue for most games though.

exactly. leafs move just as fast, as far as i'm concerned. the only games i would allow microswitches in are nintendos.

Actually faster. There's a bit of throw in the microswitches that cause a delay because it has to go "so far" to latch... then "so far" to release. Try HyperSports with microswitches... bad juju.

For fighting games, you need micros... for juuuust about everything else, leafs (leaves?) are better.

IMO.

If forced to choose, I would pick leafs, but I can play any game with either and not be bothered by it...

Micros are definitely cheaper, too.

And yeah, to directly answer your question, there is more of a mechanical 'action' to a MS, making it nanoscopically slower.

If you want to go insane,
put micros in a Robotron....

;-)

It's not noisy in my house like an arcade was, thus micro-switches are like nails on a freaking chalkboard to me.
It's like the nasty as hell clicking of a Guitar Hero guitar...I HATE those things.
