I'm looking in to converting a couple of Hydro Thunder's and a Golden Tee from failing CRT's to LCD's. Happ has a kit but I'd like to know if anyone here has done this and how the kits worked out for them. Experiances, Suggestions, Warnings, etc.

Thanks.

I've converted several Hydro's but no Golden Tee's. They went in fairly well and brought new life to the games.

bought the Wells kits from Betson. Came with a Tri-Mode LCD, mounting brackets and a new bezel.

The LCD for Golden Tee looks amazing but like most people don't, you have to read everything. You will need to make some adjustments to your GT cab. Some people who buy the LCD from HAPP think they can just take out the CRT and throw it in. You need to do some mods. Not hard at all to do.

Is there not a more reasonably priced source on these?
I figured the prices on these would come down somewhat within a couple years of CRTs being discontinued but that hasn't been the case.

I bought one for a GT cab without reading about the mods first, so decided against it ,so did put it up for sale on here, it looked great, just for SSB/GT cab was more than i wanted to mess with

What I thought too! Anyone pieced together a certain size of replacement LCD for 25" and what it usually takes to convert inputs easily? Wanna do some drivers but don't want them to look funny(16:9 vs 4:3) without payin a fortune to happ versions!

Yea I was going to say my experience with the lcds is that they generally are not drop in. You are going to need to do some modding. The lcds can look good though. I've seen the 26 inch lcds put in a few games including a few fighter cabinets, generally I think they look good. I put the vision pro 19 inch in my neo geo as well. Personally it looks so much better than the failing monitor I took out(it had a failing tube and a failing board).

Buy a 26 inch lcd tv that will take vga in and get one of those chinese cga/ega to vga converters. Cheaper but may take more to get working.

This is what I'm using on my SF2CE currently. The adapter is easy to setup and has a dual vga output. The picture looks great! I'm using a NEC 19" computer monitor in this cabinet but, I also have a 27" Toshiba LCD that I've tried with it as well and the picture looks just as good. :) I think I only paid like $39 for the adapter.

Where donuts find that version adapter? I have several that have non-VGA cables and LCD tvs are so cheap now. Are you also having to use a tv that auto powers down?

Depending on the monitor rebuilding them over and over and over again just isnt worth it. Top that off with the fact that the larger tubes last no where near as long as the smaller ones and your better off shot gunning the monitors.
