Is there a way to know if a certain LCD tv will turn on when power is applied? I want to convert 2 of my games to use LCD's, but I don't want to have to use a tv remote to power-up the monitor.

I think most LCD monitors will turn on automatically when power is reapplied.
Not so sure about TV's, but I assume you mean monitors.

I ran into this when I built my Galaga Cabaret using a TV monitor. What I did was run wires to the switch on the TV and then to a 12v relay. I was already using 12v for the coin door and marquee lights, so than I ran it to the relay too. The relay actuates the on/off switch on the TV when it's powered up and issue solved!

Do all (most?) lcd tv's run the power switch on 12v? Does it void the warranty to crack one open?

Sorry for the confusion...

Here's more detail. You open the TV, find the power switch than solder or fasten two wires to the switch or circuit board.

You than take those two wires and run them to a relay (in my case it was a 12V auto relay). Most relays have 4 terminals, so 2 of them take the wires you just ran to the TV switch or board.

The remaining 2 relay terminals are for your power, the power to turn the relay on or off. In my case 12volts. So the 12volts actuates the relay, which in turn makes or completes the connection to the two wires from your TV switch.

The wires going to the TV are not powered, just dummy wires that if touched together, will turn the TV on in the same manner as the TV's switch. The relay now would do that job.

This is all of course if the LCD/TV does not remember it was on when turned off, like mine would not remember.

Make sense now?

It may void the warranty but if your careful, no one would notice. If these an issue, then you would have to disconnect the wires you ran.

I used an LG LED tv in my Cruisn, it comes on automatically when power is applied, but i did check this function in Best Buy with a display model prior to purchase, just unplug and replug display models to verify

Are you the one who had security called on them? The TV I'm interested in is at Wal Mart online, and not in stores. I guess I could get it, and then return it if it's not what I need.

I have two Konami Racing Jam machines with monitor issues, and I'm 100% done messing around with CRT's.

A Couple of Questions:

For doodlesdaddy: The Cruis'n used a medium resolution monitor. I'm having a heck of a time finding one for my Rush the Rock. Is there a thread on your conversion to LCD? if not, can you outline what you did and how are the results?

Edit: found the thread here: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=201214

For silverduck: The Konami Racing Jam also use a medium resolution monitor, what are you using to convert the signal, and what monitors were in your game and what is happening to them?

Mine had 27" W/G something or other. I plan to use the JammaBoards rgb to vga converter and then run a vga cable to the tv. I doubt I mess with them at all until spring time. My garage isn't heated.

Which model? If it's not a D9xxx it's almost certainly cheaper to rip the boards off and ship them out for repair, and a lot less hassle too.

I think you will be better off trying to use a monitor, they tend to support more resolutions and all I tried will turn on when power is supplied. You just need to switch them on once for the first time, then they remember the last power state.

If your trying to avoid cracking open your TV don't want to void anything. Here is what I did for a customer of mine. I bought a cheap Multi remote. I broke it open and used a relay to turn on the On button of the cheap remote. Which turn on the TV.
