I'm doing a dedicated cab for Tower of Doom and Shadow Over Mystara. Going to use a switcher between the two. Due to space limitations, the monitor is going to have to be an LCD. With that being said, what are my options and more importantly, what do they look like? Because it's a 4 player, it's going to be wide so I am loosely basing the design off of Martijn's Slim Marvel vs Capcom cabinet over at arcadecontrols. So what do I do? Letterbox on the widescreen LCD? Bezel on the widescreen LCD? Find the largest 4:3 LCD I can (20" I think)? If you have suggestions or images that would be helpful please post 'em up. I would like to be able to see what it's going to look like before I drop the cash on it.

I just loaded Tower of Doom up on my desktop pc monitor (27" 16:9) and it really didn't look bad with the stretch. Some games stretch awful, others you can get away with it. Although I don't really understand the "space limitations" thing, if that cabinet you linked was just a couple inches deeper then you could get a standard monitor in there. Makvision's 27" flat tube crt monitor (the one happ still sells) is only 19" deep.

I really need to minimize the footprint of the cab off of the wall, thus the depth concerns. The control panel is a bit of a beast in of itself so I can't really add too much to it and still have it work for the room.

An LCD would have a depth of maybe 4" if I got a cheap, Chinese no name unit, even less if I picked up a real brand.

For the price of the Makvision 27", I could buy a couple of nice 32" LCDs. Price is a concern for this build. I couldn't throw more than $250 at the monitor portion.

This may be a little too slim, but it demonstrates the principal I'm going for.

Do yourself a favor and spend $100 on the arcade forge scanline generator sl3000g (I think). I bought one (from uk) came in a short week and it made my LCD look so much better for jamma games like black tiger and ghouls n ghosts. It is an awesome device

Can someone with a scan line generator post some pics with and without? Or point me to we're there are some pics?

This site has a bunch of examples: http://scanlines.hazard-city.de/

I'll attach two images to show how Pac-Man would look with, and without, scanlines.

The T-SLG has little knobs to adjust the intensity of the lines.

It's hard to explain but the lines make the image more clearer. Like there's no color bleeding or anything. It makes the text much better as well as big pictures like title screens and backgrounds and stuff. I love mine hands down. Won't play an LCD without it
