well i was complaining about the market being dry and not finding anything, then recently i got a few sweet additions to the arcade so i quit complaining...

today i got another game locally, a few exits up the freeway... i got enough deals recently that i kind of overpaid on this, but i've been sorely missing a nintendo game in the arcade...

i'm also used to buying broken games, so its nice to get one that works for once (even after the boards fell out in transport)

so a craigslist ad for a garage sale mentioned arcade games, i called and he had phoenix, this DK Jr., and a multi for-home with 12 games... i just got a phoenix so that was out, but i had been wanting a DK or DK Jr (or Popeye) to get Nintendo represented in the arcade again (i used to have a DK Jr cocktail) (oh and i have no desire for the cardboard multi midway cab with williams games on it)

he started at 350, i felt like i was high at 250 but we settled on 300... i was already there and i'm trying to fill out the arcade so what the heck

cabinet is pretty beat up though, edges are all chewed up.. i didn't capture the sides in the pics but under the cpo you can see, and one side is really bad like that... and no sideart (looks like a horizontal monitor was mounted through the sides, 3 holes... but not anymore) credit button under the cp, cpo is burned and faded, bezel and marquee are scratched but fine, coin door is hacked... someday i'll fix it up but for now its playable

monitor looks good, but grows/shrinks with brightness changes so a cap kit is probably in order

Welcome to the world of Nincabs - soon you will wonder why they ever put games into parti-cabs or MDF, the 1/2" ply is light, robust, and resists moisture - What more could you ask for my friend. Just put that sucker on a platform and enjoy playing in a fully-standing position.

Congrats on the pickup. It's a cosmetic project, but the game is working so that's good.

I sold my restored DK Jr. a while back for $550 locally. The guy listed it a few times for $400-500 since then and I think he finally sold it because it popped up again last week by a different seller for $700. I doubt he'll sell it at that price since the guy before him had trouble selling it at a loss. He'll probably end up breaking even when he does. It's funny how I'm able to keep track of a game I sold a long time ago. I may end up with it again someday. Haha.

But to your point about the size of the cab, it was designed by Japanese people, what do you expect? I'm 5'6" so it's a perfect height for me. :D

thanks! yeah its definitely a cosmetic project (its amazing what the what-must-be-new t-molding does to hide the overall thrashed-ness of it)

working is good, its a fun game (less time to work on projects though, d'oh)

you're lucky (re: 5'6") i can't see the top third of the monitor in a comfortable standing position (i'm 6'5) with the bezel art and kicked back monitor...

the tilted monitor on midway cab's is good for any height as you're looking more down on it... upright monitors are ok on like william's cabinets or the like for tall folks but still a little lower than ideal (they are tall cabinets with high control panels too so that helps)... i have the same problem with the Video Pinball, but even it's not as bad (you don't have to see as high "up" inside the bezel area)

oh well, the stool isn't bad (its not robotron!)

but there must have been an american designer/manufacturer right? or at least one "american" working for "Nintendo of America"... then again, maybe not :)

Reading these forums is depressing.

So many great dedicated cabs and all for cheap prices.

Here in Australia that DKjr cab would go for at least double that. Probably triple.

Dedicated cabs are extremely rare, the vast majority of cabs in aus are generic cabs wired for whatever game they have in them, or just jamma, with no side art and probably no CP art etc.

I drool reading about all these dedicated cab purchases.

Yeah, I like reading the For Sale section here on KLOV and imagining everything is near me, "I'd buy that, and that and that, ooow and that too..."

The best way to deal with the height on Nintendo games is to get a stool. As soon as you get good you're playing for at least a half hour so it works out pretty good.

good advice... the stool is working well for me (i need one for the video pinball too)

or it was... until i tried to play after work and got this: :(

sync issues, alternates between left pic scrolling wildly and right pic static but not in sync... time to pull it out

well any tips on this sync issue? i don't have much experience with these nintendo cabs or sanyo monitors... it did come back the other night after posting those photos, but now its not coming back...

pulled it out and fiddled with the pots (monitor and 2 on the video board) with no significant change...

anything obvious i should know before i start down the typical diagnostic route? (i'm getting sidetracked from my G07s that need attention...)

thanks

thanks guys...

i guess my plan with the "latest addition" threads failed because i can no longer edit my first posts and use the thread as a log of my machine... sorry for the bump

happy to have fixed the sync issues with a simple cap kit (and readjusting the h-hold on the chassis, who knows where i left it)

Edit: new high 47,800 (yeah i'm not very good)
