Hey all... been too busy and too out of space to be doing much with my arcade as of late... but i couldn't pass up on a couple games from another collector making space... so i'll probably flip the Millipede as i already have one... but i got a Space Fury and a Q*Bert that i'll be hanging on to (and getting rid of some old stagnant projects to make room)...

i'll do another thread for the Space Fury, but here's the Q*Bert as i got it... some moisture damage around the edges, sideart is cut and cabinet could be in better shape... looks like new CPOs that look great, don't know if they are NOS or repro... bezel is near perfect, and header is pretty good... the monitor looks great...

but its not all good... some major hacking to the sound board and a non-factory but still gottlieb power supply... summing to the game running but flaky, no voice (but a "wind" sound when there should be speech) and no knocker...

but it gets better, as i also got the extra main board, sound board, and power supply (original from the cabinet, burned up) along with it... i'm just starting to read about this system, tips and tricks, etc... but i don't have 30v anywhere, but the sound amp was hacked with a different one (possibly a 12v one?) so that would possibly explain the functioning sound amp, but no speech or knocker...

anyway, a nice score, these never seem to come up... my plan is to rebuild the original power supply and if i can get that going, try to fix the hacked up wiring back to original...

That was a pinball power supply they hacked in. Also looks like they run an aux sound amp in place of the lm379s.
I have all the parts you need on my website.

Gv-109 mach iii ps?

And yeah, soldered leads to a socket in place of the amp chip, leading to the remote board sound amp...

I saw your site and will be ordering soon, thanks
There's some missing parts and some burned up parts on the original PS, i need to verify everything i need is there

@!#?@!

q*bert is a great @!#?@! game, with a great @!#?@! cab and great @!#?@! characters!
now let me get my @!#?@! back to work!!

Congrats on the Q*Bert! That's my latest game as well. Looks pretty solid to me cabinet-wise. Tempermental is an understatement. Mine is under repair as well, but I hope to get it running solid soon enough. Hopefully replacing some original parts will help, and with some stuff from Riptor, you should be well on your way. Good luck!

Don't stop there! go for the tri-fecta!

Yup, both appear to be and will be addressed... no corrosion i can see so i'll be working on the original power supply and unhacking the wiring harness first, then the sound board, knocker, and finally battery and any other mainboard stuff (caps, connectors)

But im getting married next month so i wont be working on it soon :(

omg, Universal mr do aux audio amp, not the worst Idea I have seen I suppose!
I would address the functionality of the sound board first. You said it does not sound right?
If you need help on that sound board feel free to hit me up. I was a bit of trial by fire to repair a few after I killed and to a lesser extent made to act strange 3 gottlieb blackhole sound boards, while stealing board from my other machines!
btw, SCORE on the spare sound board! Kind of jelous!

ah Mr Do? I was wondering what that sound amp was from...

I'm assuming thats a 12v audio amp, i think i need to get the proper power supply (and redo the harness) so i can then test the sound board with the 30v it wants (and its proper amp)

Thats the only way ill get speech and knocker back (yes i do get game sounds thru this amp hack)

no?

The game flakes out after being on also, and at 4.5v i'm not surprised... i may throw a switcher in there so its playable for my impending wedding, then when i get too work on projects again do it right

I dont own a qbert, but yes I would assume the 30v is for the knocker.
I assume that hack is for 12v amp also. Def looks like one from a mr do.
Why is it only at 4.5v?
Sounds like it would be pretty easy to get everything but the knocker taken care of quickly before you are to busy with wedding stuff etc.

The (wrong) linear power supply in it has an adjustment pot that maxes out with voltage on the bottom of the qbert mainboard at 4.5... i didnt check at the power supply very well, not knowing the pinouts (wiring was hacked to make this PS work), but i found 4.8 on one pin... so the PS is low and i'm seeing .3 voltage drop thru the harness and board...

It wont address the sound issues but a good 5v i'm hoping will fix the random crashing. And will be doable in an hour... speech (i dont know if speech needs the 30v) and the knocker can wait til i do it proper with the original power supply (if it works after rebuilding)

The original sound board (LM379S amp) requires 30v. The 30v is used for the amp and the knocker only.
I have a rebuilt power supply for sale right now. I also have complete knocker assemblys and parts for the knocker if you end up needing anything.

Interesting, The sound board uses 5v also, is it coming from the same place? What will the ps do with no load on it? It is possible the sound board is jacked up and bringing the 5v down. just saying.
