You know, the movie the Last Starfighter is my inspiration and the epitome of playing arcade games in the 80's. I just remember him playing that game in that outdoor arcade at the trailer park and thinking, "You can't get closer to heaven than that." Whenever I think about why I started collecting arcade games, I always remember those scenes in that movie. Was that game ever produced?

nope. there were some roms floating around about a year ago or so. if you search these forums over the past year you should find something.

I have always wanted to build one or own one. Now that there is a game, I just might do it. This is so cool.

I remember when I saw it as a kid thinking, I have seen the future, and the future is good

The best part was that the trailer park arcade was outside and it always seemed to be nighttime. That movie gave me a feeling much like Close Encounters or The Explorers (when they terrorize the Drive-In in the tilt-a-whirl spaceship). Movie's don't make me feel that way anymore. The way the night sky always looked so filled with stars or the moon looked so big, like in E.T. Maybe it's my age or the fact that the Last Starfighter game was never commercially produced. Either way, thanks for the link that showed me I'm not the only one who wondered about that game. Or saw that movie.

Anyone try to play the game that is linked in one of the above posts on this thread? I couldn't get past the attract mode, insert coin screen. If anyone burns this game and it works, let me know. I wonder if you could program chips to put into the PCB of a similar game. I would almost rather have a bootleg PCB for this game than an emulation on a cheap MAME computer. Can you imagine what a set of these chips or that PCB would go for if someone made a bootleg??

I have played it on both my computers. I just can't move good enough using the keyboard. I'm not a computer gamer. I like joysticks and buttons. I'm going to build a mock up control panel and test it with that. If it runs good, I will build the rest of the machine. I hope those guys can make the artwork, that would save a lot of time.

I just brought up this thread to post that I'm actually watching the 25th anniversary version of this movie right now.
Oh and also to say that the 25th anniversary edition of this movie came out 3 years after this thread was started, which is now 13 years ago. *sigh*

Man, I can't remember if it was here...or BYOAC, but I believe the builder was out of Australia a few years back....and he built an incredibly detailed and clean last starfighter cabinet and documented the whole project. I'll have to look for it.

Aussie guy, yup.
I have squirreled away all the data I could find in case I live long enough to try to make one.
It is a BEAST of a cabinet.
