last resort: considering selling Gauntlet, but which?

I love my machines (as we all do) and have a hard time ever selling. Even if I don't play them often I really enjoy having them, as do my kids. But times being what they are I'm being forced to consider selling off some stuff just to make ends meet. Of my small/meager collection the only contenders at this time are one of my Gauntlet machines.

I have a classic gauntlet II that was a rescued conversion. Still retains the JAMMA guts that I used to my advantage. I acquired a G2 board set that I did the G1/G2 hack and have it working in the cabinet with a JAMMA adapter I made for it. To that I have a double-JAMMA switcher from Mike's Arcade and have my Simpsons working in it, for a total of 3 games on it. Cosmetically it's about 8/10.

Much newer is my Gauntlet Legends/Dark Legacy. ...Really just Legacy right now, though the cab's art is still about 50% Legends. Run-of-the-mill, but a recent poster claiming to be producing a new board that would make Legends/Legacy switchable has me considering doing a Multi-Gauntlet, using another double-JAMMA and have an original Gauntlet 1/2 working in the same cabinet.

I'm stuck. Classic Gauntlet is a sweet game/cabinet and has sentiment from my teen years, but the monitor is tiny and has limited potential from what I've already done with it. Legends/Legacy is a friggin' awesome cabinet with a giant monitor and has more replay value, but it's a beast to move and these newer boards/drives are wonky and cheap and do tend to give me some trouble.

So which game would you sell/keep, and why? Also, given my description what do you think these machines are worth (at least here in the northeast)?

PS: Doesn't this recession suck? Anyone else think it should've been over by now?!? :-(

I have a G2 that's a Gauntlet conversion. It's one of my all-time favorites and I would never part with it. Personally, sentiment has more value than game-play. I worked at a local burger shop as a teen and a G2 was in the restaurant. I played it during breaks and it was one of the few video games in my small town. It just brings back such great memories.

Gauntlet legends is a horribly large cabinet. But it could be the better choice if the monitor is dual rez.

Not sure what its worth especially in your market. If you try to sell the gauntlet cab without the board, maybe $200. With your G1/G2 board, maybe $500-600. Gauntlet legends is worth about $400-$600.

i had a gauntlet legends boardset. while I love the game and want another, I vote classic. I just got a g2 cabinet with the multi game and been playing it like crazy whenever people come over

Personally, I'd keep the G2. I love Gauntlet, much more than Legends, but that's just me. It's hard to say what the values are, it depends on the condition of the cabinets. The question is, which game do you like to play more? I think parts are pretty easy to find for either game.

I'd keep the G2.

Worst part of the economy, you likely won't get what you want for the game. Games are not selling. Good luck and hang in there.

Thanks for the input, fellas. Still not an easy choice but gravitating towards keeping the G2. If so I'd like to keep the dark legacy boards and see if I can mod my double Jamma to make an all-in-one gauntlet solution. Problem is that the voltages on the legacy/legends boards need to be so precise I've yet to hit the sweet spot that on my G2 cab that will even fire them up and spin the drive without compromising the voltages for the G1/G2 board. Will have to experiment a bit...

Of course by keeping the boards the legends/legacy cab will lose half it's value. At that point is it even worth parting with (rhetorical)?
