Last plea for Racing Jam help before it gets scrapped.

I have 3 sets of Konami Racing Jam boards that need repair. Two of the boards have the "RTC Self Check Error". The other board works, but needs the RTC chip reprogrammed. I have a 4th board set that works 100%. The correct data is not out in cyber-land that anyone has been able to locate. The correct data is on my 4th, working board set.

Here is what I need.

De-solder the working RTC chip from my working board.

Pull the data off of that chip.

Place that data on 3 new chips that I will provide.

Solder those 3 new chips on the 3 boards.

Solder the original chip back on the 4th board.

Simple enough, right?

I will pay a reasonable fee for this service, as I NEED to get it done. There are several other KLOV'ers that need this same service on the same boards, so whoever is willing to do this can make a decent amount of money.

This will be my last request for Racing Jam help. If I cannot get these boards repaired, I will give up on the project and scrap the machines for parts.

This should be a very rewarding project for someone who can do surface mount soldering, can read and burn chips.

can't you just press test button (and maybe plus service button) while turning on the board, to "reset" the RTC?

All 3 games will be scrapped on Friday. If anyone needs parts, speak now or forever hold your peace. If anyone wants the cabinets, let me know before they meet the fire.

this sucks that you can't get them fixed, which means i probably can't get mine fixed either :-(
if you wanna get rid of the boards, let me know and maybe someday i can find someone to fix them...
i have 3 racing jam cabs and only 2 working boardsets
thanks

It don't seem like it should be that big of an issue to get them fixed. Do you have any clue of anyone who would be willing to do them? I know people are able...I had one board repaired already. I am not sure if they are not fixing boards anymore or what? Seems like there is a market for this repair, and money to be made. Do them all at one time, assembly-line style, and make several hundred bucks in one day. Oh well. If I had garage space this wouldn't be a big deal. Now that it's racing season, my son's racer is taking priority over project games.

I could easily do all of your solder and desolder work. I just have no way to transfer data from one chip to another. Goodness though there are lots of people with rom chip burners.

I'd offer to poke at them, but I know my burner will NOT do those NVRAM chips.
A similar discussion has been had over the Silent Scope NVRAM's........ same story.

So...I send you the boards. You remove all the chips. You mail the 1 GOOD chip to a person with the correct burner. I send that person 4 new, blank chips. They burn the data, and mail you back all 4 chips. You re-solder them, and return my boards?

Wow....complicated. Is that what we are up against?

Hi SilverDuck, as mentioned - I have burned several M48T58Y for my Konami Viper board - all good and working. If the data is available it's my pleasure to burn you the chips... are you still having the boards ?

btw. the guy doesn't need to solder the chips... just use sockets... In five years you (and myself too) need to change the chips again when the battery goes flat ;-)

T153, The code that is available from MAME is a Japan-release code, which requires a clutch pedal and 5-speed shifter. I had a very helpful KLOV member burn that code to a chip and install it for me. The game works if you select the automatic transmission, but the car will not move if you select manual-shift. The game thinks the clutch pedal is constantly depressed. Also, some of the menus are in Japanese :)

Is there any way for you to verify if the code you found is the same Japanese code we found?

there's just one mame entry for racing jam so I assume this is the only one dumped. Maybe I have another RacingJam that I could check to see if that is a JAP version to... I will come back to you on this when I know more.

Ok. Thanks VERY much! From what I've learned, there are two different Racing Jam machines. The US version uses a UP/DOWN shifter, and no clutch pedal. There is a DELUXE (Japan) machine, that has a 5-speed shifter, and a separate clutch pedal. We need the version without the clutch, just a throttle and brake pedal.

now i remember i tried to fix some viper board (thrill drive/xtrial racing), but it looks like only one of them was bad by this rtc chip. just fyi, this same chip in viper system, if goes corrupt, causing the game won't boot at all. if there's an err saying somekind of rtc bad, it is the key besides the flash card.

well, i know racing jam is another system (nwk-tr).

The first board I had with the RTC Self Check Error, ChannelManiac fixed for me, but the data he put on the chip was for the Japanese version. From what I understand, that is the only data that is currently out there. This is the data that requires a clutch pedal. My game now works, thanks to ChannelManiac, but only in auto transmission mode.

So, that said, I have a 100% functioning board set, that if someone could pull the data from that board, I feel that...now only would I pay a pretty penny for the service, they would also be doing the arcade community a great favor for getting the data out there for other owners to use.

I know that "Mudhens" also has a board or two that needs the same repair, and I have three that need it. Not only would I be willing to pay good money, but others would, too.

if i am near to your location, i'll gladly to help you. but, i am afraid, it is not so near. so big shipping cost would be unavoidable.

I'm not really that concerned with cost. I just don't want all these worthless machines.
